My Daughter is dating a boy that is 19 and she is 15. They are very happy together and I he is a very nice boy. He respects her and he has never pushed her into anything that I know of. What are the sexual consent laws from Calgary, Alberta for teenagers and people over 18? Are there any laws like that that are new in the province I should know about? Please tell me.

"What laws apply as children get older?
There are many laws which begin to apply. At age 14, children may begin to consent to some forms of sexual activity and their consent may be used as a defence by an accused person. In Alberta, a 14-year-old may apply for a learner's driving permit."

I did a google search and came up with this:
Age of sexual consent in Canada is 14. There was no mention of whether that is only between people of specific ages, however.
http://www.uofaweb.ualberta.ca/SAC/nav01.cfm?nav01=23613&
http://www.interpol.int/Public/Children/SexualAbuse/NationalLaws/csaCanada.asp
"Age of consent for sexual activity According to section 151 of the Criminal Code, the legal age for consenting to a sexual activity is fourteen (14) years
'Every person who, for a sexual purpose, touches, directly or indirectly, with a part of the body or with an object, any part of the body a person under the age of fourteen (14) years is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years or is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.'"

Age of consent in Canada is 14, however there are a few exceptions:
18 is the age of consent for sodomy, however this law is considered an unconstitutional attack on the gay community and is no longer enforced.
The other limitation deals with people in a position of authority. In these cases, there is no age of consent. Simple example, if you're daughter was 19, it would still be illegal for the teacher to have sex with her. Other examples include cops, judiciary, military, babysitter, coach (if in a position of care, e.g. out of town trip).
Hopefully this will clear up some confusion
