I love watermelon. They used to be a lot more fun to eat outside before the fireants illegally immigrated to my area.
"Watermelon is fat free, nutritionally low in calories and considered an ideal diet food, and is high in energy, making it a great energy boost! Nutrients in watermelon include vitamins A, B6, C!"

I've heard that food is generally good for you.
Honestly, do we ever discover that some natural food is "bad" for you???
Well, sure we do, but only for 10 years, then new studies prove it's good for you or even great for you once again - take for instance the egg, milk, carbohydrates, etc.
It's all a bunch of baloney (which is also good for you - don't listen to the kill-joy health nuts who are probably skinny and weak)
Health comes from your attitude and your activity level.
Kosher law says a few meats are to be avoided, like pork and shellfish.
Other than that, it's all good. Don't even give me your studies. I guarantee if we meet back in 10 years, they will all be proven wrong by newer studies.

Watermelon is great for you. Eat a ton of it and get plenty of exercise and you'll be super healthy!

there is a huge difference between what is good for you, and what is good for dieting. Watermelon spikes your blood sugar levels too much too be an effective aid in dieting. you are correct that exercise is key; but a proper diet helps a whole lot too.
it has to do with its "G.I" number. check it out:

youll see watermelon as the second in the list of high gi foods, right after dates.

I don't buy what nutritionists sell.
After 30 years of telling us that fat is bad, carbs are good, and vegetables and fruit are the way to lose weight, whereas meat is the most unhealthy thing, it took a Dr. Atkings to swing the pendulum back the other way and say, "Hold on. Fruit and many vegetables like potatoes are much worse for losing weight than steak and chicken, which are excellent for losing weight. It's not the fat that kills you as much as the sugar and carbs in mostly plant foods, so vegetarian is actually less healthy for dieters."
But despite all this, every life experience tells me that it's 80-90% exercise and only 10-20% diet.
I've seen the most fit people eat sundaes and chocolate candy and greasy fast food on a daily basis, right before jumping up to move heavy boxes and play basketball with all their might
and I've seen the fattest people counting calories and severely restricting the types of food they eat, yet moving around like snails, afraid to ever do anything except in slow motion.
Most out of shape people have no clue how much they walk slow or sit during activities where fit people would stand or run. If you had to push the slow people to move just a few paces faster, they would cry and scream that you're a monster.

i have been known to eat 2/3 of a seedless watermelon in about 30 minutes when absorbed in a good book. as a young man i was able to put away about half a 20 pounder in half a day by myself.
watermelon is not just a food group anymore.
it is occasionally a minor religion. the other minor religions are popcorn, milk, and rarely, vanilla ice cream if it is the natural or organic kind. not the kind of ice cream with the plastic and the solvents hidden in the non-listed ingredients. (fda "generally regarded as safe" list

I was totally with you for most of this. Watermellon, popcorn, milk, and vanilla ice cream can make great minor religions.
The organic stuff I think is a bit silly.
While natural is always best, organic products have shown to sometimes be less healthy than commercial ones.
Remember, the most controversial pesticide of all time, DDT, turned out to be harmless to humans, but deadly to mosquitos carrying malaria, and therefore perhaps saved more lives than any other medicine in history by killing the disease carrying insect in many countries....

since the first study i read dealing with organic food (1977 from duke university) it has consistently been proven that organic food has greater nutrient density than commercially raised food. the lack of pesticides and herbicides (or at least lower concentrations by not directly poisoning one's food) is also a good thing.
there are whales off western canada which are dying of cancer, and every biopsy of cancerous growth contains high concentrations of herbicides and agricultural chemicals. not everything is ddt. many are proven toxic. that is why field workers die of caids (chemically acquired immune deficiency syndrome) and over a quarter million die of exposure to these chemicals annually.
the trace elements in organic foods are critically important to one's health. when one knows that low levels of copper are necessary to keep the blood vessels elastic (to prevent stroke) one learns to appreciate what minute amounts of substances can do to improve one's health. . .
probably bored you with this before but a doctor did hundreds of autopsies on people who died of myocardial infarction, and every one had a selenium deficiency. makes one think.

Watermelon is a rich source of lycopene.
i've read articles which make claims that the fruit, when eaten, treats sunburn.

i understand that tomatoes need to be cooked and eaten with oil or fat to aid absorption of lycopene, but it is not clear to me that this is true of watermelon.
