If the Liberals' law is passed, will sex education in the schools, including elementary grades, include the same portrayals of sexual activity which presently exist in heterosexual instruction? Will there be the same presentation of homosexual activity? Of course there will.
Stockwell Day
What's the Prob Stock? I though you xians were supposed to "Love thy neighbour"?
Marriage commissioners who choose not to marry homosexuals are being fired. A Knights of Columbus chapter in British Columbia is in court because it chooses not allow a lesbian group to use its facility for marriage ceremonies. The list goes on.
Stockwell Day
He's really got a hate on for gays, hasn't he?
"Stockwell Day is a very religious Christian. Before running in politics, he ran a Christian day school in Red Deer Alberta. He believes in the death penalty but is against a woman's right to abortion. He even believes that Adam and Eve actually existed.
From 1986 to 2000 he was Progressive Conservative for Alberta, during which time he was sued by a lawyer for making libelous comments linking the lawyer to a sex criminal. The settlement plus court costs totalled $792,000 Canadian, which the Albertan government paid for him and Day himself only paid $60,000. Stockwell Day has a history of not knowing when to keep his mouth shut.
In 2000 the old Reform Party and the Progressive Conservative Party tried to form an alliance and run as a single party. Not all the Progressive Conservatives agreed, so the Canadian Alliance Party was not even properly named. Stockwell Day quit provincial politics and decided to join the Alliance . Day also decided to run for party leader, and during the leadership campaign against Preston Manning and Tom Long (an Ontario Tory), Stockwell Day ended up winning.
During the 2000 election campaign Day made the following comments and voiced the following beliefs:
He showed up at a press conference on a Jet Ski wearing a wetsuit and said that politicians should spend less time in Ottawa and more time on vacation.
At a technology firm in Ontario, he complained about "brain drain" to the United States, but meanwhile the owner of the firm was actually FROM the United States.
In Niagara Falls, he complained that Canadian jobs were flowing south just like the Niagara River (the Niagara River flows north, not south).
At Conestoga College in Ontario he was doused with chocolate milk by a student, after which he complained that "I should have been wearing the wet suit."
During the campaign, some of his old religious/anti-abortion beliefs came out including "Women who become pregnant through rape or incest should not qualify for government funded abortions unless their pregnancy is life threatening."
He also proposed "direct democracy", which stated that any petition with only 3% of voters signatures should be used to trigger a referendum on the subject. After which there was petition circulated that wanted Stockwell Day to change his name to "Doris Day". The petition got over 1 million voters to sign it (which is way over 3%).
Day espoused his belief that evolution doesn't exist and that people do really come from Adam and Eve.
Day believed that an "Asian Invasion" was taking place at Canadian universities and that we shouldn't allow asians to study in Canada.
He made a variety of other quotes displaying his anti-immigration beliefs, anti-native rights, anti-women's rights and anti-Quebec"
..and this guy is a minister in Harper's cabinet! He is also on record as saying he believes the earth is 6000 years old.
Now Mazel, perhaps you are getting an inkling why Harper can't get a majority and why Canadians on the whole don't trust the man a bit.
Harper is finally making a stride......... Human control you emotions, Liberals are in a sinking ship without a captain aboard....Lets talk about lol....
Fool!!! ooppsss... I think I just showed emotion... ![[grin]](/forums/themes/default/grinning-smiley-007.gif)
Name one of these"strides" Harper has taken. And while you're at it maybe you can explain why he has increased the deficit more than any other PM in the past 30 years.

Could be, but I'll tell you one thing for certain: Sam is not Canadian and does not live in Canada. My guess is that he's Asian or Hispanic and may have lived in Canada for a time but settled in the US about 30 years ago. He seems to know a bit about Trudeau who he talks about as though the guy left office last week but has no grasp of politics in Canada of the past three decades. Definitely a mystery but not one worth losing sleep over.
About two years ago there was someone on the Canadian forum who really took a dislike to Sammy and started a nasty little war with him . This character discovered Sammy's weak point, which is his fanatical adoration of the real Sam Houston. This guy claimed that Houston was in fact a homocidal blackguard whose favourite pastime was killing Mexicans and stealing their land when he wasn't screwing their children and provided all kinds of links to back his attack. Although he went at it relentlessly it was clear that the fellow couldn't have cared less about Sam Houston and was inventing half of his charges against the guy just to irritate Sammy. But Sammy was oblivous to this and got so upset that he started a thread begging people to present proof to the contrary! Finally, Sammy had a huge meltdown and vowed never to return to this forum except to participate in the Canadian Humour thread. Ah, the irony!

Realitycheck, remember that I'm not a republican, I voted for Obama (although I don't agree with many of his policies either), but as a moderate Liberal centrist I try to see both sides of the equation.
Thanks for the bulleted info on Harper, too. I can now see where both of your opposing views on your pm come from...
Also, Mr. Day sounds like an idiot from what you've shown.

I'll admit that Canadian politics aren't my strong point.. Thanks for clearing some things up, guys.
I just had assumed that your cons were more moderate and centrist than many of our neo-cons in the states..

What about Harper's promise to make your senate an elected body? Is that a promise, or just empty rhetoric?

There's two ways to go ...but it's going to take time.
You can't just get rid of a senate over nite......nor can you make it elected.
You have to plan it over a number of years, in such a way that it will desolve itself, unless there's an agreement with all political bodies involved.
As for the not knowing about Canadian politics, most Americans are very naive on the subject......But there's good in bad in all systems of the political spectrums.
hm...... has for MR. Obama ....it's like a song a band sings...... makes it to the top , then the band folds after so many years.......
It's called a one hit wonder! Mr.Obama will be a one term President.

I'm not totally clueless about your politics, though.... I probably know more about Canadian politics than most other fellow Americans, however.. After all, I've studied the system of Canadian Parliamentary gov't and about your main parties and and electoral system for an elective, a few years back... And lest we not forget, I'm temporarily residing in Canada for college, on a seasonal basis, lol.
Most Americans don't even know that Canada's head of state is the queen!
(I doubt even many Canadians know this, or can name the current governor general!)

Of course she has "ties."
We are, after all, an English-speaking country that used to be under the crown..
Bush and Queen Liz are apparently distant cousins, far removed, and descended from a common ancestor in 13th century Englan, btw...

ah, well.. We know you're not a real alien, but a human imposter from Canada, now residing in the US... No doubt you're a decent chap though.
I'm not as concerned about the climate debate, as I am about the US and the rest of the advanced world finding renewable forms of fuel... Oil is not going to be an eternal source.. It is decreasing in amount, and eventually there wont be enough to fuel a billion cars... We should continue drilling off-shore and harnessing nuclear energy, but in the meanwhile it doesn't hurt to invest in burgeoning forms of energy that can be made in almost unlimited quantities.
We need a more stable fuel source(s) than oil, in the long-run.
A combination of renewables that we can rely on to power our tractors, our trucks, and deliver foods to our stores.

See, if you were a real alien , you'd give us Helium3 already, and that'd do wonders in providing completely safe nuclear energy to many countries with only a minimal mass yield.
But no! No aliens to help us out.. We'll have to send astronauts to the Moon to mine it ourselves...
Meanwhile, the earthbound search for viable biofuels (algae being the most prominent that doesn't rely on competition with food-crops like corn), in concert with hydrogen fuel cells and efficient electric ev's continues unabated... A combination of this triad will give us inexhaustible cheap energy if start researching and investing the Private Sphere right now...

This is correct, but we've tried to tell humans this...It seems just another money grab....Humans don't want to listen ...
Don't get us wrong, there's nothing wrong in believing in a faith , humans need something to turn to, in their hour of need. It's just that humans should be able to do that at home .... Don't need someone telling you lies....
Stef on the religion thread and I have a good debate about this.. Humans will make it, what they wish in their own way......
