An RCMP emergency response team boarded and took control of a vessel carrying 76 people off the British Columbia coast and piloted it to port on Saturday.

The action capped a large-scale, two-day police and military operation that kicked into gear following a tip that the ship had sailed unannounced into Canadian waters.

Assistant RCMP Commissioner Al MacIntyre said officials received reports on Thursday of a vessel in waters off Vancouver Island behaving in an inconsistent manner.

On Friday afternoon, the frigate HMCS Regina approached the Ocean Lady near Port Renfrew and an armed team boarded it and took control, MacIntyre said.

No shots were fired and there were no injuries.

The RCMP vessels Higgitt and Lindsay, along with HMCS Regina, escorted the vessel to port at Ogden Point on Vancouver Island.

Rob Johnston of the Canada Border Services Agency told a news conference Saturday evening that 76 men were led off the ship and were believed to be in good health, considering the voyage they had just undertaken.

"However, even though we're satisfied, we are making arrangements for medical examinations as we process them through," Johnston said.

He wouldn't say if there were any children on board, only that the migrants were of a "variety of ages."

The migrants told Canadian officials they wanted to go to Canada. They are being detained and processed under Canada's Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Officials wouldn't say where they're being held.

In an interview with CBC News, Public Safety Minister Peter Van Loan said early information indicated that the people on the boat may be from Sri Lanka, but that was still unconfirmed.

"Obviously they're arriving in an unconventional fashion, so that raises concerns and the potential of human smuggling or concerns of that nature," Van Loan said.

Officials at the news conference couldn't say where the men are from.

What I find interesting is that they said that they wanted to go to Canada. Did these people know that Canada existed at all or were they told to find a boat and take it to a country called Canada where if they made it into Canadian waters they were home free. All they had to do is shout "refugee" then the game begins.

I think that these people should have been given a big box lunch and told to turn their ship around and head home. Canada has to send a message to the rest of the world that if you want to come here do it legally not try to sneak in by the back door.

Now once again, unfortunately, the overburdened Canadian taxpayer will now have to pick up the tab for their accomodations, medical, lawyers and of course appeals not to forget the RCMP and Canadian Border Services salaries also which will probably run into the millions of taxdollars.

Thanks to that wonderful thing called the Charter of Rights, these people suddenly now have rights. So they are now being detained and processed under something called the Canada's Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. I guess refugees need protection, but from what?

A TV station took the time to go about asking people if they thought that these illegals should be allowed to stay in Canada and 84% said no. What a bunch of racists. One person from the Sri lanka  community said that when she saw these illegals they all looked healthy and well fed which could mean that back home things were not all that bad.

You love this kind of stuff because you're stupid enough to think it supports your point about immigration in general.

Fact is that this is the first time in 10 years that illegals have tried to come into Canada by boat. The last people who tried were all sent back to China.

You're also lying when you say that these people suddenly have rights under the Canadian Charter. This is the kind of bullshi* that flies on sites like Storm Front but is pure nonsense.

No one wants illegals in Canada as the poll you cited shows and it's likely that these people will be sent back. So what's your point?

BTW, funny you're so upset people claiming refugee status here when you were happy to have Canadian taxpayers foot the bill for that disgusting Nazi Ernst Zundel's "refugee case" which was a poor attempt to not be tried for his crimes in Germany.  You also seem pretty happy about accepting the white refugee from South Africa on completely undocumented evidence of prejudice.

But as we all know, as long as a person is white, they can do no wrong in your book. You're happy to have every kind of thug and liar come into this country as a refuge as long as their skin color matches yours.

All one has to do here is go to youtube and type in "anti-white racism in South Africa" to know that the SA refugee was not lying. You will find plenty of documented evidence of racism towards whites. But of course with a liberal like you it's who cares he is only white. Only whites are capable of being racist, something you anti-white liberals hate to have to hear. Thanks to all your liberal boycott efforts to try and get rid of apartheid, now SA is one of the worse places to live where murders are an everyday occourance. Ah well, at least apartheid is gone which makes all you liberals happy and that is what it is all about, keeping liberal no-minds happy.

So, you cannot resist me, eh? You miss talking with this white ignorant trash, as you called me, don't you? I expose liberalism for what it stands for and you just hate it.

I think that you are just as happy to have every kind of thug and liar come into this country as a refugee as long as their skin color doesn't match yours, uhm :dude:?
