Nora Ephron dies at 71

Postby madmex1966 » Tue Jun 26, 2012 11:11 pm

Nora Ephron, the screenwriter and director behind "Sleepless in Seattle," "You've Got Mail" and "Julie & Julia" has died, according to the Washington Post and CBS News. She was 71.

Earlier Tuesday, Nicholas Latimer, vice president and director of publicity at Random House, told TheWrap Ephron was still alive but in a weakened state.

Rumors began buzzing Tuesday afternoon that the 71-year-old -- whose robust career spanned screenwriting, filmmaking, book-writing and reporting -- was suffering from leukemia and near death after gossip columnist Liz Smith published a post, which has since been taken down, eulogizing her longtime friend.

Oh how sad. She was terrific. We spent a couple of evenings talking and talking and laughing together. She encouraged me to get started on my first book. I met her when she was still in love with Carl, and then spoke to her at length after he proved to be a bastard to her and she decided to write a book about his betrayal.

RIP, you lovely funny woman.

Nora Ephron was smart and talented woman. Three Oscar nominations for original screenplay: Silkwood (1983), When Harry Met Sally (1989), and Sleepless in Seattle (1993). I will miss her.

That book would have been Heartburn--right? She also included some nice recipes in the novel. (I have a copy of it somewhere.) You were lucky to have met her. RIP Nora Ephron.

Yes, Heartburn. Carl tried to sue her, got nowhere.
