Anglophilia and the 4th of July

Postby mazel schlimazel » Fri Jun 29, 2012 9:52 pm

Is it possible to love all things British and still twirl Old Glory at Independence Day parades?

Aren't the two ideas mutually exclusive? Does, say, my adoration of English history and culture make me UnAmerican?

As a Briton that's married to an American and lives in America: your independence and lack of aristocracy is all very well, but you've only replaced them with millionaires, a series of hierarchical or family-oriented presidents and Hollywoodised aspirations.

The Queen'd have you back, and isn't an egotist like a lot of your 'elected' leaders.

4th of July? I'll stay in an read a book.

We are arguably still legally bound to the British Commoneealth via our reliance on common law.

The food and the countryside and Paris and Cannes are really nice.
