Trump voters aren't voting for him because of his proposals. The core of trump support is older white men who didn't go to college. Trump’s tax proposals, a flat tax at notional low rates, would be a disaster for them. The skyrocketing federal deficit and corresponding cuts in federal spending on health and education would be a major setback for their children and their grandchildren. Trump voters haven't paused to figure this out because they don't care.

Trump’s core of support loves him for his angry style, his bigotry and his pseudo-macho vulgarity. These voters aren't going to change their values whether trump drops out or drops down to defeat. A major political party, the GOP, has formally legitimized violent threats, if not violent deeds. The grumpy old white men who think all this is simply great are the real problem, not the evanescent demagogue enjoying his 12 months of fame at their expense.

The point is taken, but really....... Lets just boycott this mess....

Not to often am I or we, our speechless, but this week we're watching and listening. This gutter talk , not locker room talk, and the attitude, while Bill Clinton did it first......Doesn't Cut it..... At the same time Mrs. Clinton is no angel either. Al Gore on her side , just made it worst. Another lair .

We rather not comment on Trump and just let the voters choose...... The two evil doers can fight it out.

What are we independents independent from? Surely it more than the distasteful personalities of the major party candidates. We must be unwilling to support the policy platforms of either of the two parties. In the long run, personalities do not drive the affairs of great nations, interests do.

Things not equal to the same thing are not necessarily equal to each other. That independents agree that the major parties don't have the answers, doesn't mean that we agree on what the answers are. In these days of brainwashed partisan robots, this makes independents that most interesting group.

Don't worry about that rumor because Trump isn't going to win. His defeat is going to strengthen the GOP establishment; whether they will be strong enough to regain control and put the Liberty Caucus in the attic again is an open question. If that happens, independents on the left will have some pull on President Clinton; if the right wing crazies continue to rage, she will have no motive to listen to them but will be making deals with Republican moderates. One thing for certain: the American fascist movement is going to get a good kick in the balls; whether this will finish them off or whether they will just lie there moaning for two or three years remains to be seen.

Sammy... Be Careful.... Trump will send the first men to Mars where he will build another Trump Tower.

Trump needs to focus more so on the male vote. He should have nationalized the Boy Scouts when they decided to admit girls.

You're overly optimistic. Identity Politics is real and it's here to stay. Tribalism will bring scorched-earth results and a prolonged urban war to America. It's advisable to learn how to use a gun and grow your own food if you already haven't. That's all.

I'm curious though.... Do you still cling to the same view, after last night?

I was a surprised as anyone by Trump's victory. Unlike liberals, who were stunned and even terrified, I was able to console myself with the fact that Trump's victory was given him by the working class. Hilary was seen as a millionaire tool of Wall St. and of a Democratic Party which has sold out to the ruling class.

The question now is whether Trump will prove to be, like Franklin Roosevelt, "a traitor to his class." There are strong strains of economic populism in Trump's speeches and promises; how much of that will be reflected in his policies remains to be seen.

One encouraging sign is that Trump is not an ideologue. He has changed parties five different times. He is in it for Trump. His personality is such that I don't see him being bossed around by either his cabinet and advisors or the likes of McConnell or Ryan. He doesn't have a reputation as a team player and he seems to be planning to run the executive branch much as he has run his corporation.

Nothing in his private life suggests any adherence to the ideals of social conservatives. He seems quite willing to throw the reins over and let others fight the battles of the religious right. He definitely wants to be popular and that means raising wages and living standards for the small town white guys with no college who are his base. His announced strategy is a reaganomics tax policy tied to protectionist economics. Informed opinion is sure this will not work. What he will do if and when it fails is the most interesting topic of speculation at this point.

I am surprised at the naïveté of that ^^^ meme. It doesn't prove anything about so-called liberals, merely that Trump has changed his views. Trump's recent comments deemed racist by his opponents, haven't been directed at blacks. As a life-long New York City resident, Trump knows better than that instinctively.

The cracks about criminals, rapists and "their best people" have been aimed at Mexicans and hispanics. Trump has seized this topic, as he seized birtherism which many consider to be racist as well, in response to the wild nativism of the alt-right vote which he set out to make his political base. Now he is trapped with them and, after Charlottesville, probably going down with them.

For those to whom "racism" is a crime on the scale of rape and murder, it is important to recognize that "Mexican" is not a race. Far more than the USA or Canada, Mexico is a land of many ethnic groups or races. The economics of ethnicity in Latin America is far more complex than it is here.

1/5 of the population voted for Trump, all I can say is that things need to be fixed.....Fareed Zakaria stated few years ago that the US. constitution need to be updated. At that time Iceland was redoing theirs , actually I believe theirs was so old . it wasn't on paper...

The population, hi tech , and the world has changed since 1776.... It's like you have Model T-Ford with a soup up 2017 engine.........

WHY people are Independent and voted for Trump...................By sides draining the swamp, you have this old piece of paper that was the foundation of the thirteen colonies ... The population was in 1776 2,500,000

http://www.yttwebzine.com/yesterday/2013/10/28/75757/population_13_colonies_chart

Today 2017 :unitedstates: population is 325,053,010
