If California ever did manage to leave would we take bets on how long it would take them to realize they couldn't make it on their own and would fail miserably? |

In the US all races and ethnic groups keep together only until they think they can benefit from it economically. of which nation the USA is a state? Of WASP obviously, all other Europeans were assimilated, were adopting Anglo-saxon principles and behaviour. Other races and ethnic groups were marginal and tolerated it for economic reasons. But states are created by nations, in any state there must be some ethnic basis, which keeps the state united whatever happens, in any disaster or economic crisis. Whites will not be a mahority in the US by 2050, but tge US may fall apart even earlier. The US is losing its ethnic face, it will inevitably lead to separation of ethnically different states from each other. Southenr states after Latinos dominate them - will fitst demand Spanish to become state official language, then an official language of the US, along with English. And finally they will separate their states. Edited by Siberian, Nov 11 2016, 09:18 AM.

The US just entered transition period. - It is in the beginning of demographic shift which will lead to whites losing majority. - It is in the end of Debt pyramid life period. - It is in the middle of the process of losing status of the biggest World economy, with due consequences for dollar and American ability to spend more than you produce. All trends will lead to certain results, all combined they will result in desintegration of the US into smaller more ethnically and economically homogenous states. Via bloody war a-la Lebanon or Syria, since all your minorities live in their compact areas, but these areas are spread almost everywhere across your country. It will be really bloody. It have happened numerous times with Empires. If the US is formally empire or not - does not matter, since you have all attributes of it - multyethnic population, dominant ethnic group which will become a dominant minority soon, like Tutsi in Rwanda or Alavites of Assad in Syria or Sunni of Saddam Hussein in Iraq etc. - all this ends bad for this ruling minority. Even now there is formally no economic crisis and the US is witnessing race riots and voting according to race divisions. So, Edited by Siberian, Nov 11 2016, 12:13 PM.

You would have to sell them to China for that. Russia does not have that much hard currency nor does it own that much of our debt.

They are already selling the good parts of this entire country to China. This is another reason why Trump got elected. Edited by Robertr2000, Nov 11 2016, 12:07 PM.

The secession fantasy, growing in attractiveness on both ends of the political spectrum is a symptom that The United States of America concept isn't working. We aren't going to break up the federal union -- that isn't even on the table -- but the attractiveness of the idea is a symptom of something deeply wrong with our country. We have been a coalition of states with broadly differing ethnic, economic and political views since our founding. We drove the USA model over the high side in 1860, producing 600,000 Civil War casualties and leaving behind scars still visible. The federal solution established in the 1780s and reformed in the 1860s was installed on a society in which over 90% of the people lived on farms and most of them never travelled fifty miles from where they were born. Our society is radically different today and the long process of stretching and patching our constitutional fabric is once again reaching a crisis point. We aren't going to break up the union. Forget about it! The question is: are we going to come up with a revision that actually makes it better for Americans or are we going to grumpy along blaming each other for our frustrations and satisfactions? |

The really fun part about this is the fact that the exact same folks are the ones who laughed and sneered at Texas for suggesting it could leave the USA. Of course, Texas for a brief time was actually a nation state so unlike Cali they do have a history of being independent even though that history was very short in duration. It is also comical to see the folks who looked down upon Trump for suggesting that he might not accept the election results if he thought there was massive fraud, now refusing to accept election results that nobody is calling fraudulent. All of this nonsense is funny because it reminds me of the actions of college freshmen who get in trouble. They go away to school and think they are their own person. Then they do something stupid and the people who are paying the bills (their parents) call them out on it. When they discover that indeed, since they don't pay the bills they are not actually in control of their lives, they throw a temper tantrum. Edited by Demagogue, Nov 11 2016, 12:43 PM.

George, a politically incorrect anecdote A fire destroyed a block of flats in LA, many people died, among them a family of muslim refugees from Somalia, a single black mother with 4 kids, a Latina family. The only ones who survived was a white couple. Immediately protests started by ethnic minorities, but later it got known that the white couple were the only people who were at their jobs when fire happened and thus survived. I mean some Jar blames nationalism for the EU failure, but the core principle which makes the state capable of being created - a certain ethnos does it, a state is always a product of certain ethnos, and it exists only till this ethnos is ready or is capable to bear this weight. There must be a spin ethnic group, paying for the party. In US circumstances it may be called WASPs, since other whites are just assimilated. In the EU Germans tried and as we know already - failed, they are not ready to pay for Greeks etc. Britts are also of that kind partially, they are semi-Germans in regard of responsibility for the EU. The EU is doomed because there are no EU "Russians" who are ready to feed EU "Chechens" to keep the Union alive. The same is correct regarding the USA, after whites will become minority - the pie will be too small to feed everybody. Plus there will not be a rent from Dollar super-status, you will not be able to create debt, tge world will not lend money to you any more, because China will print World trade money. Trump is just the very manifestation of this process. It is whites who destroy their USA. And after minorities are deprived of their free bonuses - they will demand power, which they grant to whites now in exchange of wealth. History is not worth mentioning since rural socuety with natural economy is not there any more. Edited by Siberian, Nov 11 2016, 12:50 PM.

History is not worth mentioning since rural socuety with natural economy is not there any more. I'm afraid history is very much worth mentioning since where we have come from explains where we are. My observation that the united part of The United States has always been a work in progress which has gone through a number of stressful periods in which the instability of our national paradigm has led to significant problems, frustrations and setbacks -- and once to a bloody Civil War. The European Union has just begun the puzzle which we have been working on since the 1780s. I say with due respect that Russia has yet solve the puzzle either as recent events in Ukraine and Crimea illustrate. I am not talking about just legal structures or military effectiveness but of a national identity which resides in the heart of each citizen. Frenchmen have differing views but know what it is to be French. Germans felt themselves to be German before there was a Germany. Americans have profound, unresolved differences about what it is to be American. Often this flaw has been bridged over by material expansion. Sometimes it has led to crisis. We seem to be headed for crisis. |

Damn, George, can you stop talking with slogans... I mean from where we come etc. I mean melting pot was working with whites of more or less common European origine. But it doesn't work with blacks, Asians and Latinos (if they are in big numbers). Rural society had not to compete for resourses since the US had plenty of land and this aspect could be solved via expansion. Economic crisis did not create ethnic or racial tensions because American nation till now was quite homogenous in racial/ethnic sense. In a generation all European immigrants were assimilated into WASP culture. And your civil war had nothing to do with process of establishment of Americans as a nation, it was within one nation. Now everything is different, the US is losing its ethnic spine, white majority, and there is growing competition for the shrinking pie, and ethnic division very much coinsides with social/wealth division. In such circumstances any deterioration of economic situation cannot but lead to deterioration of ethnic tolerance and co-existence. And economic situation will become a catastrophe relatively soon. And the US has no experience in dealing with problems of multyethic states. Despite American ethnic diversity except Jews, which rule the US via finances - there is no experience of big minorities having their ethnic interests artuliculated. The US as a model has no answers to challenges it faces now and those answers it has - do not work. Like melting pot, or now 2 party system, even your electoral system cannot but to create chaos, Trump is not quite ligitimate since more people voted for Killary. And if Trump fails in economy (and he will, and Wall street will help him to fail) - all sides will get much more radicalized. The US is a giant flaw, a broken something which is not working in more and more aspects, in ethnic cohesion, in economy, in political system etc etc. You are heading to very tough times. Your idea about a "melting pot" and white harmony in early America is easily refuted; however, your general assessment of our immediate future strikes me a right on the money. |

Those who live in California are always the last to know...However , you are correct that California won't secede from the USA...They would be doomed to become a province of Mexico....Mexico is not concerned with the environment...Mexico doesn't even believe in clean drinking water................

I don't endorse secession, but I'm curious as to why you think that? California is a net contributor to the federal budget, we kick in about $20-30 billion a year in federal taxes that we don't get back in federal expenditures. If we dumped $30 billion more a year into the state coffers, we could have some of the best roads, bridges, airport, ports, and other infrastructure in the world. And the only country we'd have to defend against would be the United States, which would never invade a neighboring country for no reason, right? We could be the new Canada.
