Louisiana-Lafayette suspends 4 for explicit anti-Trump video

Louisiana-Lafayette football coach Mark Hudspeth has suspended four players for their role in a video of players singing a song that says “(Expletive) Donald Trump,” according to Tim Buckley of The Advertiser.

Awesome - it's about time that we someone suffer consequences for their inappropriate actions.

If more of this happened in America today, we would have less of these ridiculous "protests" and none of the riots.

Hope we see more stories with happy endings like this one...

Yups, that nasty thing called "freedom of speech" has to go.

One of the earliest objectives.
And we deserve it.

Yups, that nasty thing called "freedom of speech" has to go.

this has been addressed & discussed ad nauseam on these boards

you are free to speak and say whatever you want

you ARE NOT free to avoid the consequences of your speech and/or behavior

And the consequences of our actions... they are even more ominous.
I welcome those consequences.

So athletes can't express their political opinions?

I'm a fan of free speech, but if the video was public, and the four were clearly identified as players, and the team has a policy that forbids using the team identification to promote a political agenda and/or using profanity, then the suspension is valid.
Without geometry, life is pointless.

sure they can, as private citizens

as representatives of their team, no so much

the suspensions were legit

it is also worth noting that their coach had defended them a few days earlier (we'll call that "recruiting")

this is a school in Louisiana - schools tend to need donations form wealthy alumni for their athletic and academic programs

wealthy alumni in Louisiana tend to land on the political right side of the spectrum

the school really didn't have a choice in this situation

Seems at odds with 1st Amendment at a state (gubmint) university. I wonder if the person(s) who recorded and then released it was/were suspended also? I doubt those players had any intention of it being public.

If this is a commercially based decision, fair enough.

What set me off to react in this thread is the sentiment you expressed in the second post of this topic is that all dissent to Trump should be silenced:

If more of this happened in America today, we would have less of these ridiculous "protests" and none of the riots.

Now, riots are inexcusable. But people have a fundamental right to protest. It's a bit disconcerting that you think that protests should be silenced, just because you disagree with them.

I'm sure there were commercial implications in the decision

I do not think that dissent to Trump should be silenced; I am just frustrated with the violence of the protests & the property damage

Seems to have become the new normal in the United States, leftists don't get what they want & there is hell to pay

Protest peacefully - fine

Statr breaking windows & endangering the physical safety of those you disagree with - not so much

Thank you Coach Mark Hudspeth. I am a very big fan of the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns.
