Democrat Senator to Harry Reid: You’re an Embarrassment Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia did not appreciate what Harry Reid had to say after Trump’s election victory upset. To quote the conservative Democrat correctly, he told Reid he was, “an absolute embarrassment to the Senate as an institution, our Democratic party, and the nation." Ouch. |

Yeah, outrage from cons about what Reid said. After all the crap they said about Obama. Vulgar comments are the norm from cons. One Dem does it and they lose their mind. Maybe if more cons took Joe Manchin's example to heart and responded the same when their guys said worse about Obama, then I'd have some consideration. |

Hello, dcbl! Thank you, very much, for this thread. I want to share this very interesting video. * * * An interesting fact with the 2016 United States presidential election is that every state which had a United States Senate race ended up with a coattails outcome. Each applicable state which carried Republican or Democratic for U.S. President also did the same for U.S. Senate. That's unusual. In 2004, 2008, and 2012, the coattails effect was about 75 to 80 percent lined up. In the 1990s, they were more like 50 to 66 percent. (Loose estimate. Sorry.) Here is the map of Republican or Democratic matchups per applicable U.S. President/U.S. Senate state: ![]() The states with switched colors did so at the presidential (five of six pickups for Donald Trump) or the senatorial (Illinois, New Hampshire) levels. (Louisiana was an open race on the schedule. It goes to a run-off. It will likely end up a Republican hold.) I mention this because it is too bad that Nevada didn't flip Republican for Donald Trump. (This is only the second time since 1912 that Nevada did not side with the presidential winner.) This could have meant that Harry Reid's hand-picked successor, Catherine Cortez Masto, would have likely not been able to hold Reid's U.S. Senate seat in the Democratic column. Given what became of the 2016 Democratic Party, that would have been very satisfying. Edited by Colors, Nov 12 2016, 06:31 PM.

I sense it as well. West Virginia has been trending Republican at the presidential level. More federal races are also going that way. (The Republican pickup for Shelley Moore Capito in the midterm election of 2014 is an example.) At the presidential level, it was something like +11 (in 2004), +20 (in 2008), and +25 points (in 2012) percentage points more Republican than how the country voted. Donald Trump won the state by +41 points over Hillary Clinton. (She didn't even get 30 percent of the statewide vote. Her husband easily carried West Virginia in both 1992 and 1996. To be fair, he never carried neighboring state Virginia. She lost and still won Virginia.) For political reasons, Joe Manchin, if he continues as a U.S. Senator, will probably make the same decision as Alabama's Richard Shelby: switch from the Democratic to the Republican Party. Shelby did it just one day after the Republican landslide midterm elections of 1994. West Virginia has changed big time. Democratic presidential winners used to routinely carry the state. In 2016, it was Republican Donald Trump's second-best state—right after Wyoming. |

Reid's statement on the election is but a check list of all the hate filled cliché's lefties have been flinging at the right throughout the election. The man is a washed up old wretched hate monger who should have been denounced by democrats when he lied about Romney's taxes then boasted about that lie. ....and he got beat up by a bungee cord.
