| We have 100 days to stop Donald Trump from systemically corrupting our institutions The transition period is our last best chance to save the republic; This is how Vladimir Putin governs Russia, and how the Mubarak/Sisi regime rules Egypt. | |

The country has entered a dangerous period. The president-elect is the least qualified man to ever hold high office. He also operated the least transparent campaign of the modern era. He gave succor and voice to bigoted elements on a scale not seen in two generations. He openly praised dictators — not as allies but as dictators — and threatened to use the powers of his office to discipline the media. He also has a long history of corrupt behavior, and his business holdings pose staggering conflicts of interest that are exacerbated by his lack of financial disclosure. But while most journalists and members of the opposition party think they understand the threat of Trump-era corruption, they are in fact drastically underestimating it. When we talk about corruption in the modern United States, we have in mind what Andrei Shleifer and Robert Vishny define as “the sale by government officials of government property for personal gain.” http://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2016/11/17/13626514/trump-systemic-corruption |

You know, it is almost comical to read the concerns of leftists who fear that if they act in opposition to Trump they might face an environment that puts a "chill" on that type of opposition in the form of either doxxing or harassment. The reason I say it is comical is because these are the vary same people who doxxed entire communities of gun owners by releasing their addresses. The reason I find their fear of a "hostile" environment comical is because I seem to remember the exact same people cheering the firing of a professor who said something that was not PC enough for them. Just this week the same individuals were cheering the forced resignation of a small town mayor because the woman said that the First Lady looked like an ape in a dress. So what the folks seem to fear is their own tactics being used against them. Tactics that they have been employing in the name of Political Correctness for decades. Of course none of their fears are going to come true. Trump is a NY liberal. He did not suddenly turn into a skin head after spending his entire life as a guy from New York. Certainly he is going to roll back a bunch of Obama's Executive Order regulations but the world will not end over those. Take a break my fearful liberal friends. The world is not ending. This too shall pass. |

Boy are you out of the loop. I knew this article would go over your heads Trump's way is to put crony capitalism on steroids, based on the Putin model. It's an intimidation racket. In Russia a free press no longer exists, due to so many reporters suffering fatal ''accidents''. Oligarchs get rich by playing ball with Putin, conversely if you don't, you're pretty much ruined and bankrupt, seeing that Putin has his hands on the levers of power and regulation. It's a similar racket in other tinpot tyrannies. Well, it's come to America. Sad to see a once great country fall to this level |

Oh, the article did not go over my head. In fact, I evidently comprehended more of it than you did. I just don't share your concerns because I am aware that we live in a Republic. In a nation of laws, getting away with what you are suggesting is difficult. It is why the founders gave us a Republic. The author started out on the track you want to talk about but he ended up being concerned about the same tactics that the PC crowd has been using for the past couple decades if applied by a greater overall racist society. The problem with his whole concept is first the rule of law and then the fact that we do not live in an overall racist society. The things that have happened in Russia can not really happen here due to the nature of our constitution and the requirements to change that constitution. Hence the reason I said your fears are irrational. Edited by Demagogue, Nov 17 2016, 07:04 PM.
