Trump to settle Trump University lawsuits
http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/306720-report-trump-to-settle-trump-university-lawsuits

President-elect Donald Trump is close to settling two lawsuits brought against him over the now defunct Trump University.

The agreement would require Trump to pay a settlement of around $20 million, according to a source familiar with the negotiations who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss ongoing litigation.

The lawsuits, filed by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and a law firm in California, alleged that the for-profit school had scammed customers into taking expensive classes that were run by people who had little to no connection to Trump himself.

In cases like these there are civil and criminal trials linked by common evidence. The tactic here, settling the civil claims by the victims of the fraud contains an agreement by the prosecutor and the plaintiffs in the criminal matter to drop the charges, usually with a statement by the defendant that disavows any admission of guilt. Trump paid off the suckers and their attorneys without having to cop a plea.

Trump also reneged on his pledge to fight this matter in court, which is not surprising.

This was 100% predictable. Few lawsuits go to court. It is both cheaper and quicker to settle without an admission of guilt required. Trump had to settle because he would not have had time to spend in court nor could the American people afford to have a potential slowdown in the presidential process while a court dragged on to its eventual conclusion. Trump had no choice but to settle for the sake of the transition process from old to new administration.

Oh I think the public would have been ok to see him in court for fraud

They understand that the rich and priviledged can buy their way out of a jam
