Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson has met President-elect Donald Trump amid growing speculation that he is being considered for US secretary of state.

NBC News quotes sources close to Mr Trump as saying that Mr Tillerson is likely to be named next week.
Former UN ambassador John Bolton will serve as his deputy, NBC adds.
The news comes as Mr Trump's team challenged the accuracy of intelligence reports that Russia intervened to boost his election prospects.

“To have the president-elect of the United States simply reject the fact-based narrative that the intelligence community puts together because it conflicts with his a priori assumptions — wow,” said Michael V. Hayden, a former director of the N.S.A. and C.I.A.

It's shocking that the President wouldn't listen to the same people who said WMDs were in Iraq.
Skipping leg day is the equivalent of a woman having an abortion. You're ashamed of it, and it was probably unnecessary.

Americans are sick of the government failures created by lifelong government bureaucrats. Trump is appointing real managers, people that expect results not excuses. Just wait until our professional Washington employees start reporting to the new management team. I'm thinking there will be plenty firings and tears. I'm looking forward to it.

No, it's not shocking, it's a lie. The people who said there were weapons of mass destruction in Saddam's arsenal were Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld. The UN inspectors and US intel both said he no longer had even the makings of his unsuccessful program, that he was pretending in order to intimidate his enemies.

You may be too young to have followed this question, but I was a deeply interested middle-aged guy at the time. The mendacious rewriting of history now undertaken by the Republican propaganda machine not only fools many Americans, it threatens to kill lots and lots of us.

Let's say for the sake of discussion that the intelligence agencies can't be trusted to provide at least mostly reliable information to the President.

Now what? Where does he get his information? Breitbart News? Fox News?

Throwing away the best available information and replacing it with pure fantasy is likely to lead to some spectacularly bad decisions.

There are no excuses for failure here.
Your guy has every possible advantage and if he goes belly up there is no one to blame except Trump and the people that put him in office.

Enjoy the ride.

That was actually the Bush administration, not the intelligence community. The administration cherry-picked intel to make their case. The intel community actually had a broader assessment of Iraq but once it became clear the administration had pushed a false narrative they fell back on blaming the intel.

It is a danger that all administrations fall into, only listening to and believing what you want to fit your a priori beliefs. Obama's administration had the same issue but handled it reasonably well. Trump is off to a pretty bad start by outright rejecting his intel briefings. Let us hope that he learns quickly on the job and before it leads us down a really ill-advised path.

Wait until they learn that the bureaucracy eats these types of guys alive. It will be interesting the first time they try to fire someone and find out they can't because of civil service protections. The first time they try to kill a program or rearrange their budgets to do what they want and are told they cannot because of Congressional action. The government is not business and it has evolved that way over 200 years of learning.

Luckily we have a system that one man, Trump, can only do so much damage in a four year term. I hope that is still the case.
