U.S. intelligence officials now believe with "a high level of confidence" that Russian President Vladimir Putin became personally involved in the covert Russian campaign to interfere in the U.S. presidential election, senior U.S. intelligence officials told NBC News.

If true, the American people owe a debt of gratitude toward Vladimir Putin that can never be repaid.

The real question is what was the reason for the fallout between the Clinton's and the Russians? For a while Ole Willy was receiving lucrative speaking deals and the Clinton Charities were pocketing tens of millions of dollars. Then, for some unknown reason, the Russians are suddenly exposing the Clinton's dirty laundry? I hope the Clinton's know better than to stiff the Russian Mafia. It didn't end well for the Kennedy's, Sam Giancana was not a forgiving man.

As Secretary of State, Clinton questioned the legitimacy of Putin's recent re-election. She had also been quite hawkish and opposed to Russian involvement in the Syrian fiasco. She has a long record of the old-fashioned (and bipartisan) opposition to Russia around the world, including Ukraine. Putin is not unreasonable to judge Trump at his word and expect that a Trump administration would be pro-business on both sides and rather less inclined to stir up opponents to Kremlin policies.

Using hacks and leaks to tip the scales of the American election is a slightly different matter than simply looking with favor on one candidate over the other. It is definitely a no-no; however, the USA is hardly in a position to condemn Russia on high moral grounds as we have been guilty of similar covert interventions, especially against Russia-friendly parties, for some time. The real issue isn't the naughty Russian hackers but our own lax and sloppy posture towards cyber threats. If you leave your keys in the car, well, you shouldn't and it doesn't make car thieves OK, but it isn't a sign of great wisdom either.

Putin's personal image as a bareback riding macho man is important, as is his skin color. These preference and popularity ratings are more appropriate for film stars than national leaders but the new journalism of 24 hour cable TV makes such distinctions irrelevant.

We started on this path several election cycles ago with the polling question "whom would you rather have a beer with?" It's a perspective that TV has pushed to center stage and Trump has excelled at projecting. The implications for our country are ominous.

Time for American conservatives to make a choice.

Do you stand by The United States of America or do you stand with Russia?

Which is it going to be?

Ma Barker tried to interfere with the Russian elections in 2011. Putin resented that and this is his way to even the score. No one will know if his efforts made any difference. Trump most likely would have won with out Putin's help anyway. Putin believes that Ma is evil. He at one time had referred to her as "Satan", an alcoholic, and a bi-sexual. Why would he lie about that? We really did not want Clinton in office and have her to deal with Russia. It would have been a nightmare.

As president, I imagine, Obama has some 'intel' that say's Putin's fingerprints are all over this - and Putin's best friend and business partner Donald J. Trump directly benefited.

Obama's going after Trump big time. :usa:

At times delusion overcomes you. There will never be any definitive proof that Trump benefited from an alleged Putin hack. Obama would have no reason nor any authority nor desire to be "going after Trump". Trump would have won the election with or with out Putin's alleged help. There is other speculation that it was DNC insiders who provided the wikileaks and not the Russians.

The assertion that "Trump would have won the election with or with out Putin's alleged help" is purely speculative. Trump lost the popular vote by almost three million. His victory was due to an Electoral College superiority that came as a result of victory in three key states by less than 1%. The allegations and publicity due to the illegally obtained and released material, which echoed many months of fake news hysteria about Clinton's email including untimely publication by Comey of a completely vacuous pronouncement, seems to have had a significant impact on voters in those key states which gave Trump EC victory. We'll never know, of course, but asserting as fact what is mere belief isn't convincing.

Putin knows more about the inner works of our government agencies and political system than Trump does. Compliments of his well-entrenched spy network that's improved immeasurably since it's clumsy beginnings during the cold war.
