Millennials looking to fix overpiercing, remove tattoos (excerpt) Dr. Harris Sterman is all for young people expressing their individuality. But just how many piercings can you put into one ear, anyway? "Some people get really carried away," says Sterman, chief of plastic surgery at Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck. The multiple holes are one thing. But then there's the many large and heavy objects hung from all those holes — and we're not just talking regular old diamond stud earrings or tiny crucifixes anymore — before the poor ear is literally stretched to its outermost limits. Call it a strange sign of the times. Some doctors, like Sterman, say they are noticing more and more millennials coming in because their ears have become deformed from overpiercing and need reconstructive surgery. And it's not just ear piercing. Many are seeking to reverse the impulsive, perhaps keg-fueled decisions of their not-quite-lost youths. That tongue piercing, that bone through the nose, that conspicuously placed tattoo you got in college may not go over so big now in a job interview, or in the board room. It's time to conform to the real world. Full Article |

That's what I tell my kids....the rebels are the ones who are ink free... One of the few things that drive me nuts is to see an attractive woman and then ruin it with a lot of tattoos especially a sleeve.... One or two small properly done in the right places may enhance the canvas....bit more than that just ruins it.... IMHO.... |

I see some of the worst tattoos at our local LA Fitness. Oh well, once they've paid off the loans they took out to get these horrific tats they can borrow again to get them removed. Maybe they should blame the banks and sue? Are they not victims?

Indeed! Tattoos on a beautiful woman are not sexy, they're slutty. |

I took my last piercing out about a month ago but I love my tattoos. I just got another one a couple weeks ago. |

I've never understood those that could have fixed their teeth, with the money they spent on tatoos. |

True although no one looks at their teeth when the first thing they see is a tattoo of the devil on the forehead. Personally I could care less, not my money but the face tats and piercings are really troubling. I can't talk to a person with a nose ring without being distracted. |

My JFK tattoo does look pretty slutty actually. My Stevie Ray Vaughan one is downright whorish. |

I have no problem with tattoos that would be permitted under USMC guidelines. Beyond that, I am not overly fond of them. Seriously, don't expect to get hired for a position that requires any kind of face time with clients if your face has tattoos or piercings. Even those tiny diamond studs some girls like to get on their nose are something that you would have to overcome before I would consider hiring you. Visible tattoos and "other than ear" piercings are something that the rest of your skills are going to have to work hard to overcome in order to get hired. If your ears have holes in them from gauging then you had better be the next Jobs or Wozniak because otherwise I will probably pass on you. It may be a mistake but there is just not enough money for me to have to look at that every day. |

It's a matter of personal preference. I don't mind tattoos and like other personal expressions some I find attractive and some less so. Minus those that display symbols of hate and racism I am not going to judge that person by their ink or piercings. It's not a measure of a person. |

No tattoos or piercings on me or my wife, aside from her pierced ears, but both of our sons have tattoos. My 21 year-old's are pretty good actually but my 27 year-old overdid it a little. ( in his defense, he had cancer 10 years ago --chemo and radiation --all that, and after that, so I've just kinda always pretended they were cool... no need in hurting his feelings.) |
