The US electoral college has certified Donald Trump as the 45th president, despite a last-ditch effort to deny him the White House.

Six weeks after winning the polls, the Republican cruised past the 270 votes needed to formalise his victory.
After the result, Mr Trump promised to "work hard to unite our country and be the president of all Americans".
Electors had been flooded with emails and phone calls urging them not to support the billionaire.
But despite longshot liberal hopes of a revolt by Republican electors, only two - from Texas - ended up voting against him.
'No treason, no Trump!'

[...] Numerically, Mr Trump's opponents never stood much chance. To keep him out of the Oval Office, 38 Republican electors would have had to defect.

Relief is on the way:

The EC is designed to ensure that black populations don't count as much as whites. It is still working after more than two centuries. It also disenfranchises Republicans in New York and Democrats in Texas, as well as making sure that possum ranchers in Wyoming are three or four times as powerful as software engineers in California. This is called American Constitutional democracy. God bless America :unitedstates:

No
Skipping leg day is the equivalent of a woman having an abortion. You're ashamed of it, and it was probably unnecessary.

The US Constitution is vastly more difficult to amend than corresponding charters in other democracies. It is one of our several anti-democratic features, requiring a 3/4 super-majority in a constitutional convention convened by 2/3 of the states.

The absurd anachronism of the Electoral College can be rendered obsolete without the need for Constitutional change. The instructions to electors are issued by state laws. Once states collectively possessing over 270 EC votes instruct their electors to vote for the candidate with the greatest number of popular votes nationwide, the EC loses its relevance. This movement, already underway, is gathering steam as we have just seen a candidate with the biggest popular vote margin to lose the election in over one hundred years. Trump was quite correct that the election was rigged. More and more people are beginning to see that now.

Trump may be a blow hard con man, but he won the election fair and square.

To change the result of the election, by attempting to get electors to deflect, is outright bad for our system of government.

Dems mocked election-doubting, then doubted an election.

They urged faithless electors, then 5 abandoned HRC.

They're not very good at this are they?

Who knows ???...After the 2012 elections, Republican's Senate and House may be able to propose and ratify a dozen Constitutional Amendments...This would upset Democrats much more than Trump's election........... :nana:
