Texas moves to cut Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) - Texas plans to block about $3 million in Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood operations in the state, a legal document obtained on Wednesday showed, a move the reproductive healthcare group said could affect nearly 11,000 low-income people. https://www.yahoo.com/beauty/texas-moves-cut-medicaid-funding-planned-parenthood-160933490.html |

Planned Parenthood said it would seek court help to block the funding halt, which would cut cancer screenings, birth control, HIV testing and other programs. ...previous funding cuts in Texas have had devastating effects on healthcare for poor residents and the state rarely fills the void for lost services. |

Good. Let the private sector pay for it. |

Skipping leg day is the equivalent of a woman having an abortion. You're ashamed of it, and it was probably unnecessary. #MAGA #wallsnotwars | |

The people who support Planned Parenthood also supported Hillary...Perhaps there are widespread consequences for losing an election, indeed for losing any control in the entire government system...............

Yes, we would rather have to pay for those people through welfare (unintended pregnancies and illness that prevent employment) and emergency room visits (preventable illnesses that were not caught early) than to support a group like Planned Parenthood that has a wiff of abortion around it. |

If any other business got this kind of blowback over a "whiff" over a "small" part of their business they would simply eliminate the stench and move on stench free.... Edited by clone, Dec 22 2016, 11:28 AM.

Negative feelings towards abortion/those stories is understandable but Planned Parenthood provides many important services, to focus solely on abortion is faulty.

The Texas legislature hates poor people and has been starving them out for over a generation. This latest change should make a good organizing tool for la Raza. TX is edging ever closer to being a blue state once again. If the local GOP in red states can't get behind their new leader, who has promised not to kick folks off Obamacare -- and Medicaid payment to Planned Parenthood is the delivery vehicle for a great deal of health service for poor women -- they are going to provoke a real backlash. The real issue with PP is abortion, which Trump opposes; however, throwing the PAP smear out with the fetus isn't going to help him. Local legislatures need to coordinate with Trump and make sure there is a safety net for the services he wants to maintain before taking the ideological axe to PP. |

But Planned Parenthood is not a typical business. They are a charity that has an underlying ethical and moral belief that drives their "product" offering that is more than just a profit motive. |

If they were a private entity this would be fine...they are not....if you watched the body parts selling videos from last year any other entity on the planet who did and then were bragging about such atrocities would have been shut down and the principles involved prosecuted harshly.... That Planned Parenthood clings to this barbaric snuffing for what they claim is such a small part of their business shows they at the very least equally as idealistic than those that oppose the mass murdering of mostly minority babies.... Perhaps the Founder of Planned Parenthood , Margaret Sanger was right when she said.... We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don’t want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members. |

If something is already dead or will be dead then I'd prefer their remains go to good use, them being treated simply as medical waste is not a good use. |

They are a (ahem cough cough) non profit with annual revenue well over $100 million and a CEO that makes north of half a million......who in 2014 snuffed 324,000 babies.... Like NPR and PBS....certainly could function just fine without tax payer largess... Cut it off....it will be just fine ....no gov't teat necessary.... Edited by clone, Dec 22 2016, 11:51 AM.

If the republicans can figure a better way to keep poor undesirables from reproducing they better let us in on the secret. I hate to think what this country would look like if every crack mammy's pregnancy resulted in another unwanted child. Like most elections, life is a choice between the lesser of two evils, choose the least repulsive. |

Trump does seem to have a plan or at least a vision of how to adjust the economy through business growth and restructure government programs to produce better outcomes for people at lower cost to the taxpayer. Will he succeed? Who knows? But he has been elected as a Republican and should he fail, the GOP will not benefit. Some deep red states have had such a fine time tearing things down for the past seven years or more than it may be hard for them to listen to the only President they have and work together to make his promises succeed. The Democrats are licking their chops and hoping the Republican civil war continues until the next election without making any progress. |
