The heroin epidemic is spreading

America’s heroin epidemic is spreading, breaking across state lines and drawing whole new regions in its maw of addiction, overdose, and death. Heroin, a scourge once concentrated in a narrow belt across the Northeast and Midwest, has been loosed on the South, according to a Globe analysis of the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention covering overdose deaths through 2015.

This is the free market, heroin is cheap. Many heroin addicts start off on prescription pills like OxyContin.

"Because it reacts on the nervous system like heroin or opium, some abusers are using one brand of oxycodone painkiller, OxyContin, as a substitute for, or supplement to, street opiates like heroin.

Armed robberies of pharmacies have occurred where the robber demanded only OxyContin, not cash. In some areas, particularly the Eastern United States, OxyContin has been the drug of greatest concern to law enforcement authorities.

OxyContin, widely known as “hillbilly heroin” because of its abuse in Appalachian communities, has emerged as a major crime problem in the US. In one county, it was estimated that addiction to this drug was behind 80% of the crime."

Your health insurance is subsidizing the heroin epidemic.

On the other hand, I blame the amphetamine epidemic on truck drivers and fat girls, rather than doctors........... :shakeshead:

The US intervention in Afghanistan has made heroin much more available and inexpensive.

President Trump will handle this.

A sad thing. I feel for those stuck in the loop, trying to get off of it, and the people having to watch loved ones go through it.

I haven't seen medical doctors or anyone else slamming heroin into junkies veins.... At some point addicts have to take personal responsibility for their addiction, and sympathy from others is simply enabling their addiction....Just get out of the way of someone trying to self destruct their lives................. :oyvey

The connection between oxycontin/heroin/fentanyl and prescription opiates is tenuous and varies from region to region. The illicit forms of opioids are much less expensive, so there is class difference in usage patterns. The key to regional distribution is the international Mexican cartel system. The article suggests that recently expanded supply networks mean that the South is about to get bombed with cheaper heroin and oxy while fentanyl, which is a real killer, is about to cross the Mason-Dixon Line and the Mississippi.

New Hampshire has been hit hard by Mexican product distributed from the Massachusetts hub in Lowell/Lawrence. The steep rise in middle class white addicts has moved us decisively away from the criminal to the medical perspective. It will be interesting to see if the spreading tragedy has a similar effect to our west and south.

Next, America will see a movement to legalize heroin use and sell it in stores along with Marijuana ............... :pimp:

Cheyenne, WY | A retired CIA agent recently convicted of possession of child pornography accuses the US government of trying to frame him as he is about to release a book that will “blow the lid off the CIA’s drug smuggling operations in Afghanistan” reveals the Cheyenne Herald this morning.

John F. Abbotsford, a 38-year old Afghan war veteran, that has also served his country as a CIA analyst, has recently been convicted of possession of child pornography, accusations he claims http://worldnewsdailyreport.com/retired-cia-agent-we-run-the-afghan-opium-trade/ “have been made up” by the US government to stop the publication of his upcoming book, the CIA in Afghanistan: 30 years of drug smuggling.

Mr. Stout merely said he hasn't seen it and I am inclined to believe him. Many addicts do start out with someone "slamming heroin" into their veins. In some areas the original source is indeed medically prescribed; more common is heroin offered by friends, a lover etc.

The significance of what Mr. Stout hasn't seen is that he really hasn't seen anything and he doesn't know anything about the psychology of addiction either. His idea that sympathy is counter-productive is merely stupid and the assumption that the purpose of opioid use is self-destruction is even worse.

His post is representative of the large number of contributions he makes. He is angry at the world and desperate for approval, even if it means being the class clown. With his problems and contributions, his addiction to heroin would be a step up for all of us.

Mr. Stout is an honored member of my personal ignore list. I came across this latest brain fart of his because it is quoted in another's post, a regrettable flaw in the software. He is a mere troll, a weakness I could tolerate were he not also a despicable racist.

Yes I have...My stepson, as typical of addicts, has a lifelong battle with his addiction that consists of all words and no action...His favorite was to whine for more and more money....Don't lie to yourself...Your addict won't get better, and he is better off dead than alive........... :banghead:

Mine is my actual son. He's been 100% clean for 2 years. Tested multiple times per week.
