I am one of the few people in this country who has successfully treated heroin addiction with a long term cure...I had them switch to alcohol addiction...Give me an IM when your son relapses, as I can recommend other legal addictions he can switch to ( such as methadone, exercise, or sex)...My advice is free.............

I have unfortunately lost all compassion for those who self inflict their misery. |

Compassion is not the only reason for dealing with addiction as effectively as possible. The costs and damage to the larger society caused by widespread addiction to illegal drugs effects us all. Addictions directly impact crime and taxes. Even without compassion, addressing the problem is in the self-interest of all of us. We have tried the criminal approach for almost a century and it hasn't worked at all. It's time to move on to a more rational, medical approach. True, this change will be better for addicts and their families, but it will, just as importantly, be of benefit to taxpayers and public safety. Think about it because feeling (or not feeling) by itself isn't enough. |

The criminal approach does have moderate benefits...As long as families don't put money on their cherub's books, addicts and alcoholics have long periods of sobriety in prison...It is like a residential health spa where they heal their ravaged bodies away from substance abuse...Upon release they are certain they will never go back to drugs, until they start hanging out with their "cool" old friends...Drug dealers even pay their "friends" to get the ex-con re-addicted.... The medical model has also failed to provide much success with addicts...When the doctors figure out how to cure the common cold, I may trust them to cure addiction...Addiction is a very complex disease that is beyond doctors abilities to cure....Addiction is a challenge equal to reversing old age and providing eternal life... The worst victims of addiction are not the addict who is zonked out, but the parents who have irrational guilt, property taken from the house to trade for drugs, and an overage adolescent who is only too willing to drain every dollar they have....For some codependent parents who suffered terribly, I suggested that they have a retroactive abortion....... |
