House Republicans voted Monday night in favor of a proposal that would weaken Congress' outside ethics watchdog and remove its independence. Republican Virginia Rep. Bob Goodlatte's proposal would place the independent Office of Congressional Ethics -- an initial watchdog for House members but without power to punish members -- under oversight of those very lawmakers. This will now be included in a larger rules package that will be voted on in the full House of Representatives Tuesday. LINK |

I expect to see many changes in House rules...Most of these will strip Democrats of what little influence they have as a minority party...Democrat Congressmen should just go home for the next four years.............

No ones going home and that's going to be a problem for our new energized 'Right' as one by one conservative actions are held to a scrutiny that they will lie through. You're about to discover that you should not have built a house of cards on a bluff. Edited by Coast2coast, Jan 3 2017, 02:11 AM.

You will see debate cut off in committees and on the floor as soon as a Democrat opens their mouth............

They really don't. They also have no place to hide any longer and so far before it really begins they are not handling it well. |

Not to mention - Trump is entering office with a historically low approval rating that's going nowhere but down.

Democratic leader in the House, Nancy Pelosi, said the amendment to the rules would effectively destroy the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE). http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-38494455 |

That ethics panel was created for the purpose of scandalizing political opponents. It did its job and now is a dangerous tool to be left laying around for someone to use against those they used that panel to gain their advantage. Time to scrap it before it falls into the hands of the other team. |

A president struggling to control his majority party in Congress is nothing new. Conducting the struggle on Twitter certainly is. This work has traditionally been done behind the scenes by a trusted White House hatchet man. Twitter is an ideal battleground for the president in a number of ways. Trump tweets, the world listens. Four hundred congresscritters can all tweet at once an it won't amount to a murder* of crows. *murder tossed in as a sort of trivia question |

NATURE’s A Murder of Crows brings you these so-called feathered apes, as you have never seen them before. Why are they so often associated with fear and loathing? Crows are smarter than most of our representatives. They should not be confused with The Association of Old Crows. |

I know most of us are nerdy enough to know what a grouping of crows is. Or were you taking a shot at the movie? |

Only the House can punish members This independent investigatory group was highly criticized for being too aggressive in investigating wrong-doing by House members. This effectively gets rid of the strict investigation and puts the fox in charge of the hen house. This is a move that shows the House Republicans have no interest in "draining the swamp". Even Trump is critical of this move. All this shows is that House Republicans are lining themselves up to clean out the vault. |

The reward for controlling both Houses and the WH is the ability to pillage the government. Power = money, that's life. Why do you think they spend millions of dollars for the chance of getting a job that pays less than $200K? Because they care about the children? Really, who's that stupid? If they steal a couple billion dollars so be it, in the big picture that's peanuts. Obama has been adding 3 billion dollars a day to the national debt, what's a couple billion more? If they fix immigration, fix our tax code, fix our horrific trade deals, replace ObamaCare and lower my taxes I can get over it. |
