Sears Is Doing Just About All It Can to Survive One More Year
January 4, 2017

Struggling Sears Holdings (SHLD) has come out of the gate in 2017 determined to stay alive.

Sears said Wednesday it entered into a $500 million secured loan facility with CEO Eddie Lampert's hedge fund ESL Investments. Of the total, $321 million was funded under the loan facility, with the remaining $179 million available for withdrawal in the future. In a sign of Sears' beleaguered financial state, the loan bears an interest rate of 8%.

Sears did not learn from Kodak. Break up or not, the company would tank regardless. Sears and JC Penny saw what Amazon and Walmart were capable of doing then. It's not like both were blindsided.

Sears has been killed by Amazon and the new technology of retail. Whatever you are shopping for, Amazon can sell it for less because it takes significantly fewer worker hours to make the sale and deliver the goods on line with FedEx delivery than to operate a retail store full of employees. Nothing will stop this trend; we must find a way to operate American society successfully under its aegis.

I can say in almost absolute certainty that Ayn Rand does not run Sears.

I've been shopping at Best Buy again. Their prices are competitive with Amazon, I can get immediate satisfaction and try out the electronics before buying.

I don't get everything there but they are getting a good 50% of my business including two large TV's I recently bought.

Sears needs to learn if it is not too late.

Best Buy, like Starbucks, is where leftists can solace after losing the election.

Why is it terrible?

They have become competitive in price. They have created mini-stores within the store for focus on cell phones, Samsung, Apple. They are creating upgraded appliance centers in prosperous suburban markets. I don't know if it will work in the long run but it seems to be working now.

I used to get all my cell phones from Verizon. The last three were from Best Buy because they had better deals.

So why are they terrible?

One of my entities is in talks to make Best Buy Great Again....they passed a few years ago (multi billion dollar moronic move on their part)....this time after seeing what some other big brands have done.....they recently came back to us to revisit our proposal...like Circuit City was BB is on shaky fundamentals.....2017 is going to be an interesting year....

No such claim was made.
Ayn Rand never ran a business..period
Neither had the majority of Austrian/libertarian economist
Von Mises, Rothbard, Von Mises, Hayek, Rockwell, Hoppe...none of them ever ran a business'
They were all eggheads theorizing from the cushy bowers of academe.

Eddie Lampert used Randian principles to run Sears.
Now, Sears is heading for the crapper.

It's a shame Sears will soon die, all those great brands like Kenmore, Coldspot, Silvertone, JC Higgins, David Bradley farm implements all those great brands that served Americans for over 130 years will soon be gone. Oh well, at least Sears Holdings has lots of valuable property to help pay off creditors.
