https://newrepublic.com/article/140423/unions-betraying-left Days after the inauguration, the leaders of several building trade unions met with President Donald Trump at the White House, outraging those on the left who want organized labor to lead the resistance to the president’s anti-worker policies. The building trades cited Trump’s call for infrastructure investment and their warm personal relationship with him as reasons to be optimistic about his presidency. As reported in The New York Times, Sean McGarvey, president of North America’s Building Trade Unions, stated, “We have a common bond with the president. We come from the same industry. He understands the value of driving development, moving people to the middle class.” Laborers International Union of North America (LIUNA) President Terry O’Sullivan talked of Trump’s “commitment to creating hundreds of thousands of working-class jobs.” |

The idea that white male unions a la Plumbers or electricians or truck drivers should vote democrat is ludicrous. |

What have democrats delivered? Stagnant wages? Bad trade deals? Higher taxes? Even worse, ObamaCare was an all out assault on excellent union healthcare. Obama and Hillary were both for TPP, of course Hillary changed her mind when she was caught on tape calling it the "gold standard." The democrat party is lost on all fronts, if they lose the black vote they will be finished. |

The carpenters union almost no longer exists thanks to certain trade policies. Trade unions that teach a skill to their apprentices should probably be against modern democrats. Service unions on the other hand fully support modern democrats. Trump knows how to work with trade unions so it should not surprise anyone that they and he can find common ground. Anyone who builds a building in NYC has to know how to deal with trade unions. |

No, he did not. I say this speaking as a member of a trade union and executive in a union contractor. Obama has done incredibly little for us. |

Right, our credit card bill is now 20 trillion dollars and we have one more failing liberal entitlement program to deal with. The next there generations are sooo f ed in the A. I told you, don't hire the trainee but you wouldn't listen. The federal government's ability to spend at current levels is running out of time. The only question is who is going to get screwed? |

The service unions love the guy though. So yeah, he probably did a great deal for them. Edited by Demagogue, Feb 7 2017, 12:05 PM.

As I despise both unions and the left, it is quite pleasurable to see them turn on each other. |

One should distinguish between private sector unions and government unions. Private sector unions, carpenters, steamfitters...provide a very valuable function, especially in the building industry. Government unions on the other hand are completely worthless and are bankrupting or at least creating a financial burden on many cities and states. The unions may have abandoned Hillary for Trump but the GOP should certainly not count on their future support. As long as the GOP supports right to work legislation they will be at odds with the unions. Besides, most union leaders are in bed with the democrats. Their concern for their workers is questionable. |
