Foul Language in Social Settings:

On Monday I had an hour or two between obligations so I popped into my second favorite watering hole for a martini or two. I knew most of the people there but sitting next to me were 3 quasi attractive women mid 30's dressed in business attire.

They were definitely out of towners as no one in the place knew them. This is not unusual as it's the go to place for people to entertain clients or celebrate or have a special occasion.

I generally can chat up anyone and we started but the women would drop an S bomb here and an eff bomb there loud enough for everyone to here. Any interest in learning more about who and what they were about quickly dissipated. I'm not a prude by any means but if I was single this would have been an instant deal breaker and their rating of a 7-8 would have dropped to a two or less.

The next day I had to pop into the grocery store in the lower income side of town and while in line there was an older black dude swearing/berating the woman he was with calling her every name in the book. It took quite some restraint not to tell him to knock it off but having assessed the situation this was not a rational person and chances are would have ended with the woman sticking up for the abuser.

My question is...have we gotten so course as a country that this kind of behavior is acceptable?

Over the weekend I took out a friend, her daughter and 20 of her sorority sisters for her 21st birthday. My daughter and a few of her friends tagged along. A good time was had by all but not one curse word....

WTF???

Trolling, name calling, lack of courtesy is only appropriate on anonymous chat board because hypocrisy

Do they even care whether or not you'd care if you were single? lol Who cares what you like?

I don't find that sort of language a problem unless it's constant and used for no reason. Otherwise it can add much needed emphasis on what you're saying, it can also make certain things more humorous. It's as good as any other word in a language but it all depends on how you use it.

They also found that people who swear more often are much more honest. It also has nothing to do with how intelligent a person is AND you're in a place that serves alcohol. God forbid they want to relax and screw around a little.

It was used for no reason...like sailors...

I gotta admit - I swear too much.
Me too. I do try to contain myself in certain social settings, particularly around kids & ladies.
