Earlier this month, Jonathan Martin jotted off a sad tweet. “I’ve lost count of the number of people who say they’ve had ministry jobs threatened/been fired for speaking out in some way in this season,” the Christian author and speaker wrote. Confirmation rolled in: one story from a church planter in California, another from a former worship leader in Indiana. These are “not people who would historically self-identify as progressives, at all,” Martin told me later. They’re “people who see themselves as being very faithful evangelicals.” Donald Trump has divided conservative Christian communities. Most white Christians support Trump, or at least voted for him. Some who have spoken out against his presidency or his policies, though, have encountered backlash. For a small group of people working in Christian ministry, music, and nonprofit advocacy, the consequences have been tangible: They’ve faced pressure from their employers, seen funds withdrawn from their mission work, or lost performing gigs because of their political beliefs. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/02/conservative-christians-disagreement-trump/516132/ |

Many of these stories suggest a generational divide in the church. Young Christians who describe themselves as theological conservatives don’t necessarily identify as political conservatives, although some who do are also horrified by Trump. |

You know, I guess I just don't understand how the evangelical mind works. I have a high school buddy that's a retired Baptist minister, and posts about a zillion messages and comments on Facebook. He's got over 3,000 Facebook friends, most, I can assume from their comments, very devout. Anyway, a year ago he was posting how horrible Trump was, and how modern society had surely gone to hell in a hand basket, if an crooked, evil, immoral person like Trump could run for president. Every post had dozens of likes, and additional comments that echoed the subject. Now his post are about how that wonderful Trump fellow is going to save us all, rid the world of evil, bring back school prayer, and kill the crabgrass in our lawns. His followers are 100% in agreement. Trump got 80% of the white evangelical vote, but I suspect that says more about the voter, than it does about the candidate. |

Are you suggesting those videos of Trump being himself, and the tweets from his twitter account are fake? |

Fundamentalist Christians are by nature a gullible bunch. Pro con artist often target them because if the grifter talks the holy talk, it doesn't take much to get his marks to give up money for fraudulent schemes. And of course, all the shysty, predatory televangelist like Benny Hinn, Creflo Dollar, Kenneth Copeland, Mike Murdock, Jesse Duplantis and John Haggee who fleece their flocks for yuge money. Fundamentalist Christians also favor an ostentatious and tacky aesthetic when it comes to clothes, hair styles/combovers and interior decorating. Trump embodies all this with his horrific hairdo, conspicuous consumption and the gaudy sheen of his homes. Look at the "homey" sets on TBN and pics of Trump's living room..this speaks loudly to Fundamentalist Christians..to them..these are bonafides. |
