Sanctuary Cities Cave In Face Of Trump's Funding Threats

http://nation.foxnews.com/2017/02/12/sanctuary-cities-cave-face-trumps-funding-threats

Dayton, Ohio, dropped a policy that restricted the city’s cooperation with immigration officials pursuing illegal immigrants arrested for misdemeanors or felony property crimes, according to the Dayton Daily News. Police Chief Richard Biehl said federal authorities will no longer be impeded by the city when pursuing illegal immigrants being held by his department.

As long as the Feds aren't demanding local police become de facto immigration agents, I don't see a problem here

What actions would you describe as 'defacto immigration" agents?

Meh, the feds can sit on it and rotate. Isn't that the rallying cry of some on the right?

Also, funny how some things change...especially when money is involved.

Doing their job for them? They aren't ICE agents, it's not the local police department's duty to go rounding up illegals. They have enough homegrown crime to deal with.

Has anyone ever asked them to do this?

Well, that's a little clearer. I would agree in principle however there needs to be a high level of interagency cooperation between local LEO & federal agencies. In Texas, along the border, we see local participation in busting safe houses, and assistance in tracking and pursuit of illegals. I don't think that's such a bad thing.

Sanctuary cities should only protect victims of crime who are afraid to report crimes for fear of deportation. It's worth the trade off.

Starting pay for a ICE agent can range anywhere from 40 - 68 thousand, should local cops be able to double dip salary since it's clear local municipalities couldn't afford to pay overtime? To

Honestly, I don't see how that's at all relevant. The issue is interagency cooperation. When you're covering the back door of a safe house, do you really wonder what the guy covering the front makes annually?

Such interagency cooperation is going to entail a ton of overtime, OT that most cities can't afford there Ringo. I think most cops are going to say "if I'm going to be pulled off patrol to go help the Feds they're going to want something out of it.

Such cooperation goes above and beyond the scope of most local police departments. As I stated interagency implies basically making them defacto ICE agents.

During Eisenhower's Presidency, USINS paid a bounty to local police departments for each illegal arrested............. :dunno:
