Three-quarters of Russians think that the government shouldn’t give in to foreign pressure or change its policies because of anti-Moscow economic sanctions, which they believe are hurting both sides and will eventually be lifted. https://www.rt.com/politics/381118-most-russians-want-their-country/ |

"Puppet of the West" meaning, nowadays and in this case, that Putin is one of the most nationalistic leaders ever existed on the planet. Resorting to too nationalistic values and behaviour of such values is a sign of weakness in today's global world - NOT a sign of strength as was the case in the history. Britain has to deal with its weaknesses with the Brexit, the USA is showing immense weakness by raising up the military expenses while the poor and average income families will keep suffering the loss of government aided support e.g. in daily health care - all because of upraise of "ancient" nationalistic values. I'm glad the Dutch did not show a true emerge of this phenomenon, and we will see in April, how France is dealing with this subject, and for Germany, in September. One of the latest news I hear from Russia (from a Russian reporter living in Finland), is that about 40% of Russians have no money for anything else than daily food. Could be propaganda but as pretty much nobody can get real and accurate statistics from today's Russia (=Soviet Union 2.0), all this is a matter of speculation. I'm sure you will not see this in certain parts of Moscow and Russia in its entire land, but I'm sure it is somehow seen in the daily life compared to e.g. 10 years ago. |

Jar, I suspect you are somehow misguided about the term "nationalism" labeling with everything which you dislike. Anyway, relax, Finland is of no importance to Russia, unless you join some anti-Russian alliance and start posing some threat to us. As for 40% of Russians having money only for food - have you been to Sudan? Russians love to complain about life but it reflects mostly their view on their level of life, but not real level of life. Not many Russians have ever been in poor countries and know what it really means to have money for food only.

New article about this in a local (Finnish) economics paper. The news was published by Rosstat. The Russian government minister Maxim Orerskin says the statistics give "too negative" view on the economy but the people are saying that even the statistics are telling too sugared views. The article tells that Olga Golodets has raised this issue of increased poverty of large masses to be debated. The political elite is not too interested with these kind of honest social questions, as the article tells. I'd rather believe the article than you. |

Jar, I understand you are fixed on your idea that presumably awful non-European values makes Russian fail and standards of living are worse than in some Somali - and will reject any information which contradicts your preinstalled obsession, but here are bare statistics -Population of Russia (including Crimea, where standards of living are still lower due to 25 years of Ukrainian yoke... ) - 146,8 mln.A year ago number of passenger cars in Russia was 44 mln. (excludung buses, trucks etc), which gives is 1car per 3,36 people. In Wikipedia they give smaller numbers, I don't know how they count ![]() How many families own a car in Russia, what do you think? Still less than in the West, I suppose, but how does it comply with your propaganda that 40% have money for food only? ![]() As well take one of the most expensive cities on Earth, Moscow, obviously the most expensive city in Russia and compare it with your village Helsinki in regard of cost of living. Drudge, Jake, I hope it will help you too to understand that saying "Russians earn less than $30 000 a year" is irrelevant and just exposes your ignorance ![]() And this chart doesn't take into account mostly free healthcare and mostly free education in Russia . https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=Russia&country2=Finland&city1=Moscow&city2=Helsinki + Birth rate in Russia creeps up despite economic crisis https://www.google.ru/amp/rbth.com/amp/632671 plus the crisus seem to have ended already, real incomes started to grow since last summer, though Russians shifted to saving money so retail still keeps stagnating... or compare New York and Moscow ![]() https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=Russia&country2=United+States&city1=Moscow&city2=New+York%2C+NY Miscovites live much better than New Yorkers, it seems, everything in New York is 2-3times more expensive while purchasing power is only 75% higher than in Moscow ![]() Poor Americans... ![]() You hear, Jake? Forget your nonsense about $30000 a year... ![]() An income of $2930 in Moscow is equial to $7290 a month in New York. Russians in Moscow must earn 2,5 less money to maintain the same sandards of life with New Yorkers. Edited by Siberian, Mar 24 2017, 06:46 AM.

Your car number statistics don't mean anything - it's about quality of life in Russia in general. You bringing up the statistics of car ownership (assuming that you mean the number of cars in Russia means basically the same as owning the car, in comparison to what was the reality of having a car in Soviet Union times) is a remnant of what Finland had in the 1970's. For your reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quality_of_life People living in areas where public transport is easily available, do not necessary need to own a car. Do you understand that this kind of value is depending on the area one is living in? Do you also understand the differences between USA and compared to the rest of the world regarding public transport and how the infrastructures of such transport methods are being valued? Moscow does not equal Russia as a country as a whole. The locals also expressed that to me when I was there for about a month. They told that to see the "real Russia", you need to step outside Moscow. FYI: I already noticed severe differences between life qualities inside Moscow itself, especially in the vicinity of Kremlin compared to anything outside "the main circle". I'm sure there are some well-off areas in Moscow but in general, you simply cannot compare life in Moscow to Helsinki with equal terms as the values of the societies are so different also in practice, including the respect for human life in general between the countries. So, stop being an idiot pretending to be some kind of "true representative of what Russia is all about in general". You're just a some minor well-off individual trying to represent "all of Russia" but you have absolutely no credibility at all to talk about "real Russian life", which is based on faking all statistics anyway and killing all opposition voices, which are trying to reveal the true realities of Russian economy. Once again, this is not a surprise news to me: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/mar/23/former-russian-mp-denis-voronenkov-shot-dead-in-kiev In part, it's like reading the historical books in the politics of ancient Rome (from about 2000 years ago), or like the political turmoil seen in more modern Europe of the early 1900's. You yourself have revealed how much Russians are faking the realities and how you take pride of it. That's not a way how you create any kind of credibility at all in anything what you say. So, basically, nothing you post here, is describing the realities of Russian life. As the western values today are majorly based on democratic principles, where everything can be questioned and are allowed to be under extremely detailed scrutiny, even the basic logic of these principles are questioned. Those principles of democracy in countries like Russia, where the possibility of the development of democracy was shortcut, are nowadays non-existent. I repeat: So, basically, nothing you post here, is describing the realities of Russian life. |

Jar, do you talk human? Do you understand that 40% having money for food only and almost every family having a car - cannot be put together in real life? Again, I am not surprused you are not surprused, you are a true zombie, stay the course, I am not going to waste time on you any more http://unitedstates.com/topic/10159941/1/#new Edited by Siberian, Mar 24 2017, 05:40 PM.

Russian governments come and go. A good way to understand the long-term forces in play is to look at a map of Europe without national borders but in which areas where the Roman Church and the Orthodox Church are the majority sects are marked off. That frontier has been in place since before the birth of Mohammad, peace be upon him. This is not to say that conflict between Russia and Russia's western neighbors is religious. It is deeper than religion, deeper than politics. There can be peace on Russia's wester frontier, but there will never be love or trust. |

So, in your view, who is lying here? The Russian government and whatever they have in control of any kind of news agencies and statistics collected by "some kind of gang of people trying to represent some kind of an official organization trying to act like they are actually responsible of any kind of reality"? Or is the opposition, whose members are being killed every now and then, are too close being telling the reality of human life in Russia? Why the persons NOT opposing Putin are not being killed? Can you think of any reason at all? Any kind of reality based news of Russian economy by any Russian official, who is not conforming to Russian propaganda machinery, is not really something which sane person should rely on. Those people are killed. Please, name a single person in Russia, which is NOT a puppet of Kremlin, who can provide news which are being questioned as thoroughly as most western news agencies are able to do because we allow them to do as part of very the basics of democracy. Can you name one person? I'd prefer a name of a person who is still among us living ones. |

Jar, you seem to be beyond being human, I think I am talking to some Pentium or -368 programmed in the peak of the Cold war and pretending to be an artificial inteligence, in vain of course.. Do you understand that number of cars and demographics statistics is not that can be somehow manipulated or misinterprited, it is not GDP , as well the chart on cost of life is a Western one and prices there can be easilly verified.
