--- STOCKHOLM (AFP) - Swedish and Norwegian newspapers on Friday (March 31) said they would refrain from the tradition of publishing April Fools' Day jokes this year over fears that it might spread "fake news". Magnus Karlsson, editor-in-chief at the daily Smalandsposten said on its website that he doesn't want the newspaper's brand "to be spread with a potentially viral and erroneous story". "We work with real news. Even on April 1st," he said. The "fake news" phenomenon broke out amid the 2016 US presidential election and grew even further when Donald Trump, during his first press conference on January 11 as then president-elect, shouted at a CNN reporter: "You are fake news!" Sweden was a victim of "fake news" when Fox News in February interviewed a "security and defence expert" who turned out to have criminal convictions in the US and no connections to the Scandinavian nation's security services, Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter reported. --- Full article: http://www.straitstimes.com/world/europe/rattled-by-fake-news-nordic-press-dumps-april-fools-day-jokes |

Let's see tomorrow if this is a joke in itself or not. However, I'm stupefied how many so called western people living in the modern world have seemingly become so uncivilized and uneducated humans once our own history is being questioned by the new emerged powers, and how some non-democratic political parties have taken control over so much that we should fear of telling jokes. Democracy and all its values are at some kind of crisis as the too stupid and fear-mongering people have taken over the control of some countries like the US and Britain (with the events leading to Brexit), without understanding the real history of us human beings where it is bound to lead. |
