The stats from 2015 don't bear you out, Atta:

Things may have changed since then, but CDC also says "Opioids (including prescription opioids and heroin) killed more than 33,000 people in 2015, more than any year on record. Nearly half of all opioid overdose deaths involve a prescription opioid."

Wilmy....If I recall you had personal experience with this issue ....sorry for that....there was a show on HBO the other day dealing with some addicts from all walks of life...it was very moving...

I did, thanks for remembering. Glad to say he's still with us. I saw a little of that on HBO, but had to turn it off. Much too close to home.

I have a prescription for Tramadol from my rheumatologist, it's a rather weak opioid. I won't take them. No one is immune. They're insidious.

Obviously this method is not working. They could do other things to help but instead do the same old thing over and over against expecting different results.

You want so many people to stop overdosing? Make it safer, stop stigmatizing it, stop arresting addicts and only go after dealers.

Unfortunately that's just what Politicians do.

I was given a prescription for Tylenol/codeine last summer. Don't know how strong or dangerous that one is but I never bothered to fill the prescription. Just didn't want to go there.

Good call. Codeine is an opiate also.

Throw them in jail like they did the black crack addicts.

As some have pointed out a lot of these folks started out taking meds prescribed by their doctors....

Recently saw a girl while at my favorite little ghetto tire store ...was clearly a crack ho type but something was familiar about her. I asked one of the guys if her name was "X" and it was. The last time I saw her was about 2 years ago were she was married to a local attorney from a very affluent family and she was on top of the world. Very stunning young woman in the span of a few years reduced to doing who knows what for a fix.

Very sad.
