City of Toronto Estimates $65,000 to Build Park Stairs, Man Does It Himself for $550

Retired mechanic Adi Astl decided to build stairs that lead to a community garden in Tom Riley Park, in Etobicoke, Ontario after several neighbors fell and hurt themselves trying to walk on the steep path. Some of Astl's neighbors chipped in for the cost of the project, which ended up being $550.

The city, meanwhile, had estimated that it would cost $65,000 to $150,000 to install the stairs in the park.

The exorbitant cost of the city's estimate had Astl believe that the city was talking about building an escalator.

Granted the city was probably thinking of one of concrete, something accessible for handicapped/disabled metal railings, slip-resistant material...etc..now, I'm not in construction, so I have no idea what that would cost in material, man-hours, overtime, etc. I do know what it would cost the city if a slip and fall lawsuit occured on such as the structure seen above.

How they make their bread and butter clone, My last ER actually got sued by a patient for slipping on the floor AFTER they had gotten up from their bed to go have a smoke when there were clear signs stating "Do Not Smoke, Oxygen present"...luckily our lawyer won, but his billable hours almost made settling with the patient more bearable.

I know how the game is played, we are launching a new branch of one of my businesses that addresses a unique niche in a similar space you describe ....our projections are low 8 figures after 24 months....we will be first to market and expect to dominate it for years to come...

Idea came out of one of our clients being sued for what we thought was nonsense but it had traction...lemonade from lemons...

yay lawyers... :oyvey

Here's another one....from fake news site CNN....

Island DIY: Kauai residents don't wait for state to repair road

(CNN) -- Their livelihood was being threatened, and they were tired of waiting for government help, so business owners and residents on Hawaii's Kauai island pulled together and completed a $4 million repair job to a state park -- for free.

<snip>

"We shouldn't have to do this, but when it gets to a state level, it just gets so bureaucratic, something that took us eight days would have taken them years," said Troy Martin of Martin Steel, who donated machinery and steel for the repairs. "So we got together -- the community -- and we got it done."
