The military juntas that controlled South America for the United States during the Cold War were hardly liberal, pretty sure no liberal would endorse Pinochet or Baptista. So, the Civil War, and ending slavery and forging a nation rather then regions or States was a bad thing? The Spanish American War was propelled to by readers of Hurst's papers, a multi-millionaire, hardly a liberal concoction. WW2 occured because we wanted to preserve Europe against Nazi Germany ,and then got bushwacked by Japan. How does war have a political bent? Poverty...hard to argue that taking money from people and creating the Tennessee Valley Authority which brought cheap electricity and brought the South out of the agrarian society it had held onto for over a century and a half was a bad thing.
The Civil War needlessly caused the death of 600,000 Americans. Brazil and Jamaica ended slavery without a bullet. You are daft if you think it was good.
Brazil was the last western nation to do so in 1888, and only done by imperial decree of Princess Isobel of Brazil., a united attempt without internal division, and there was much less racial animosity between the African slaves and Hispanic population with a large mulatto population. Jaimaica was a British Crown Colony and slavery abolished by an Act of the British Parliament in 1833 thruout the Empire. There were no internal differences about ending it. The south would never have given up it's slaves, long calling black slavery it's "peculiar institution", and even after emancipation, the south refused to give free blacks their due, finally culminating in the end of Jim Crow with the passage of the Civil Rights a century after the war ended. Yes...the war was not only inevitable, but righteous.
Slavery was already on it's way out when you progressives decided to launch your war of conquest on the southern states. You killed hundreds of thousands of civilians besides over six hundred thousand union and confederate troops. Starving children and deliberately denying them medicine, burning old people's houses down from underneath them, destroying livestock and crops so civilians could have nothing to eat. And you call all this a righteous cause because you eliminated the old federal republic and set up your centralized government so progressivism could flourish and grow. Progressives like you always pretend you're for peace and are against war but you use your mask to take people's guns away from them then kill at will with a pseudo morally superior excuse like freeing slaves. Please provide some evidence that slavery, a century and a half old institution by the time of the Civil War was on it's way out....especially since blacks weren't accorded full rights til another century AFTER the war ended.
You say it was on it's way out, how many more years, or decades would you have demanded that blacks stay slaves?
The rest of your story is just that a story. It's a righteous cause because human beings were released from being used as property. How is freeing slaves "pseudo-morally superior cause", man, you're a piece of work, how do you look at yourself in the mirror and still spew so much crap.

That war tore the country in half for over a century, disenfranchised hundreds of thousands of black Americans and converted them from chattel slavery to tenant slavery, created miserable poverty and ignorance and maintained it for millions of southerners both black and white for generations and gave the country the Klu klux Klan and Jim Crow in the states which were both radical reactions to radical progressive coercion actions. A million people died directly and up to two million died indirectly following the slaughter of the war itself on account of it. Progressives tried 'save the union' to launch their war of conquest on the seceded southern states and when that didn't work, they switched to 'free the slaves' which turned their war into a bloody slaughter in the name of a holy cause. Christ himself yielding a terrible swift sword .. imagine that. The grapes of wrath ..... liberal war mongers.
Probably was a mistake to fire on Fort Sumter.

Does tsalagi want the U.S. to invade and conquer Saudi Arabia in the name of women's rights?
Does tsalagi want the U.S. to invade the west African Muslim countries to free the slaves?
Industrialization would have ended slavery in the southern states as it did in the northern states. The southern slave owners and the confederacy wanted a constitutional amendment abolishing slavery. But tsalagi wants to kill people and starve them out as a means to change their ways regardless if it's another country.

"Industrialization would have ended slavery in the southern states as it did in the northern states. And here's why I know what Philly said above is complete and utter bovine fecal matter.
Straight from Mississippi's "Declaration of Causes of Seceding States":
- Quote:
-
In the momentous step which our State has taken of dissolving its connection with the government of which we so long formed a part, it is but just that we should declare the prominent reasons which have induced our course.
Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery-- the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the product which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions of commerce of the earth. These products are peculiar to the climate verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun. These products have become necessities of the world, and a blow at slavery is a blow at commerce and civilization. That blow has been long aimed at the institution, and was at the point of reaching its consummation. There was no choice left us but submission to the mandates of abolition, or a dissolution of the Union, whose principles had been subverted to work out our ruin. That we do not overstate the dangers to our institution, a reference to a few facts will sufficiently prove.
The hostility to this institution commenced before the adoption of the Constitution, and was manifested in the well-known Ordinance of 1787, in regard to the Northwestern Territory.
The feeling increased, until, in 1819-20, it deprived the South of more than half the vast territory acquired from France.
The same hostility dismembered Texas and seized upon all the territory acquired from Mexico.
It has grown until it denies the right of property in slaves, and refuses protection to that right on the high seas, in the Territories, and wherever the government of the United States had jurisdiction.
It refuses the admission of new slave States into the Union, and seeks to extinguish it by confining it within its present limits, denying the power of expansion.
It tramples the original equality of the South under foot.
It has nullified the Fugitive Slave Law in almost every free State in the Union, and has utterly broken the compact which our fathers pledged their faith to maintain.
It advocates negro equality, socially and politically, and promotes insurrection and incendiarism in our midst.
It has enlisted its press, its pulpit and its schools against us, until the whole popular mind of the North is excited and inflamed with prejudice.
It has made combinations and formed associations to carry out its schemes of emancipation in the States and wherever else slavery exists.
It seeks not to elevate or to support the slave, but to destroy his present condition without providing a better.
It has invaded a State, and invested with the honors of martyrdom the wretch whose purpose was to apply flames to our dwellings, and the weapons of destruction to our lives.
It has broken every compact into which it has entered for our security.
It has given indubitable evidence of its design to ruin our agriculture, to prostrate our industrial pursuits and to destroy our social system.
It knows no relenting or hesitation in its purposes; it stops not in its march of aggression, and leaves us no room to hope for cessation or for pause.
It has recently obtained control of the Government, by the prosecution of its unhallowed schemes, and destroyed the last expectation of living together in friendship and brotherhood.
Utter subjugation awaits us in the Union, if we should consent longer to remain in it. It is not a matter of choice, but of necessity. We must either submit to degradation, and to the loss of property worth four billions of money, or we must secede from the Union framed by our fathers, to secure this as well as every other species of property. For far less cause than this, our fathers separated from the Crown of England.
Our decision is made. We follow their footsteps. We embrace the alternative of separation; and for the reasons here stated, we resolve to maintain our rights with the full consciousness of the justice of our course, and the undoubting belief of our ability to maintain it.

When one can't refute fact, what was your fall-back position, of course you had to ignore it, giving it the attention due highlighted the fact that you made inaccurate statements (such as in Jamaica context, when Jamaica wasn't a sovereign country abolishing slavery, but was in fact part of the British Empire still)...that's even more of a faux pas then my statement don't you think?
You had discredited your argument by your faulty command of the facts; ignoring your argument was the civilized course to take.
Yes, because I chose the word "Hispanic" instead of "Portugeuse" clearly negates the entirety of the argument, is that all you have left. As for faulty command of the facts, claiming Jamaica abolished slavery was really lacking in facts, as Jamaica wasn't a sovereign country when it was abolished. Don't bother back-stepping, it only embarrasses yourself. None could possibly be more embarrassed than yourself. You lack both argument and creativity. The sovereignty of the West Indies was quite irrelevant to the fact that slavery was abolished there w/o hundreds of thousands dead.

It would have been gone at about the same time it disappeared in Brazil; abolition was the trend.

It would have been gone at about the same time it disappeared in Brazil; abolition was the trend. It didn't "disappear", it was abolished by the Government of Brazil...the Government of the CONfederacy was conceived in KEEPING slavery intact.

Slavery was abolished not by Jamaica but by the British Crown, you know, there is no shame in admitting you didn't do your homework in acknowledging that slavery was abolished by unilateral government action in both Brazil and the British Empire thruout it's Empire.

Philly would have been the guy looking at a slave and going, "Boy, eventually, you'll be free, oh, it won't be in your lifetime, but certainly your grandchildren's time, til then, you're still my property, so get to working" Philly is the guy who averts war or wants to avert war.
One way to avert war is a constitutional amendment abolishing slavery along with stipulations to give the freed slaves land and vocational training and compensation for the slave owners.
= no war.

And he'd probably be the guy that promised to free his slaves, after he died, and then forget to include that in the will... And you'd be the guy who would kill in the name of social justice.
Liberals like you are always ready to bomb people and kill them in the name of human rights and never in the name of defending the U.S. and protecting U.S. interests abroad.
You free slaves by compromise, reason, and diplomacy. You don't free slaves by killing them along with millions others pretending you care about them but actually wanting to replace a federal union with a central authority.

Slavery was dying in the west. It would have died in the U.S. once more industrialization occurred in the south and once the constitution abolished it.
Besides, your people had an excellent chance to abolish it during your war with no southern democrats in congress. You didn't do it then because you were too busy exterminating a federal union in order to make way for your centralized government and your progressive empire.

OP has already provided you proof in the form of secession documents stating slavery was in danger of being abolished (it wasn't) but they stipulate that was a reason for secession.
YOu have zero proof, that this industrialization was going to occur in an agrarian society based on cheap slave labor.
Also, nowhere is it said that the 13 southern states would ever have ratified an amemdment abolishing slavery.
Not only are you reaching, you're flat out lying.
