A Portland man accused of brutally attacking a 65-year-old woman has a history of arrests, at least 20 deportations and was released by local authorities in defiance of a federal immigration hold.

Sergio Jose Martinez, 31, was taken into custody Monday night on charges that include robbery, kidnapping, burglary and sexual abuse involving two victims.

Martinez allegedly assaulted a woman in the basement of a parking garage while armed with a knife, police said. The woman kicked him in the stomach and pressed the panic button in her car, and Martinez fled when authorities arrived.

The suspect has been a transient in the Portland area for more than a year and has five probation violations for re-entering the United States.

Local authorities had this man in custody and ICE had a detain request on him but the sanctuary laws of this state caused them to not inform ICE prior to Martinez being released. He then went on to attack two women.

I loathe lawyers but I hope that each of these women sue the City and department that released this scumbag for everything they are worth. Releasing this man back into our country was a clear dereliction of duty on the part of law enforcement.

He must be mentally ill, to keep on assaulting women.
Since he not legal, authorities should deport him.

He will have to face justice for his crimes here and then they will deport him. Regardless, had the federal government done its job on his any of his previous 20 deportations and kept him out then these crimes would not have happened.

Additionally, had local authorities remanded this criminal to the federal authorities this time then these crimes would not have happened.

Sanctuary cities are a sanctuary for criminals but obviously the places are a living nightmare for their victims. What is the old saying? The road to hell is paved with good intentions. That pretty much sums up the sanctuary cities.

Twenty deportations means at least 21 illegal re-entries, which tells us we need stricter border enforcement and stricter cumulative punishments for re-entry.

Are they really good intentions? Or conscious decisions with the outcome already known.

After all it's not like these outcomes couldn't be predicted.

Only liberals can choose not to go down the road to widespread, systematic violence.

For sanctuary cities there is secondary gain besides an unlimited supply of cheap labor....These include higher sales tax revenue, higher apartment rents, higher property tax revenue, and higher federal grants.....Teachers and police see employment growth....The city fathers see harmed citizens as collateral damage............ :dunno:
