Trump holds off on declaring opioid crisis a national emergency BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Even with the opioid crisis intensifying and more than 142 Americans dying of drug overdoses each day, President Trump is not yet ready to declare a national emergency, as was recommended last week by a commission he organized. Instead, the president met Tuesday afternoon with health officials and members of his administration to receive an update on the crisis and to briefly address reporters. He said the “best way to prevent drug addiction and overdose is to prevent people from abusing drugs in the first place.” “If they don’t start, they won’t have a problem. If they do start, it’s awfully tough to get off,” Trump told reporters at the clubhouse at his private golf club. “So if we can keep them from going on — and maybe by talking to youth and telling them: ‘No good, really bad for you in every way.’ But if they don’t start, it will never be a problem.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-to-hold-major-briefing-on-opiod-crisis/2017/08/08/8b7cd146-7c2f-11e7-9d08-b79f191668ed_story.html?utm_term=.b6d11dedd405 |

“So if we can keep them from going on — and maybe by talking to youth and telling them: ‘No good, really bad for you in every way.’ But if they don’t start, it will never be a problem.” :oyvey - It was so simple all along. Why did no one think of this? Thank God, problem solved! |

What a shallow uninformed comment. The majority of people who become opioid addicted were prescribed opioids by a doctor for pain following a major surgery, injury or accident. |
| Ever notice the only 2 people Trump refuses to speak ill of are Stormy Daniels and Vladimir Putin? | |

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/08/10/trump-officially-declares-opioid-crisis-national-emergency.html Extract. President Trump announced Thursday he is officially declaring the opioid crisis a national emergency. Trump, speaking after a security briefing at his golf club in Bedminster, N.J., said his administration is preparing the paperwork for the declaration. Doing so was the most urgent recommendation in a letter sent last week to the president by his own opioid commission. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who leads the commission, thanked the president for his announcement Thursday. |

Yes, he got pounded after Tuesday so guess what... he got off his dime and did his job for a change (maybe) after changing his approach after getting slammed for inaction. “The opioid crisis is an emergency, and I'm saying officially right now,” Trump said. “We're going to spend a lot of time, a lot of effort and a lot of money on the opioid crisis.” "I'm saying officially right now"? - |

Some one must have told Trump pharmaceutical companies are the most powerful lobby in Washington and they donate heavily to GOP candidates and cause - like pretending to fight the opioid crisis. |
