Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has said he wants a face-to-face meeting with US President Donald Trump.

He told the newly elected constituent assembly that he wanted "a personal conversation" when the two leaders attended the UN General Assembly in New York next month.

Mr Trump recently imposed sanctions on Mr Maduro, accusing him of undermining democracy.

The White House has not yet responded to the comments.

"If he's so interested in Venezuela, here I am," Mr Maduro told the assembly during a three-hour speech.

"Mr Donald Trump, here is my hand."

Good Afternoon Mrs.Sail,

I just hope that this conversation, when it happens, is recorded and leaked.
President "DUMB AZZ" strikes again, He admonishes Maduro someone for undermining the Democracy of Venezuela, when he should be admonishing
Putin for trying to undermine the U.S. Democratic Process. Then he turns around and thanks Putin for expelling 755 U.S. Embassy personnel.
Not rational, not stable and not capable to perform his duties.
Could it be time to invoke the 25th Amendment?
If there is nothing to hide then why all the lies?

The Answer:

Trump does not rule out military response to Venezuela crisis
Quote:

US President Donald Trump has said he is not ruling out a military option in dealing with the crisis in Venezuela.

"The people are suffering and they are dying," he said.

Venezuela's Defence Minister Vladimir Padrino said President Trump's suggestion was "an act of craziness".

Venezuela crisis: Latin Americans condemn Trump over 'military response'
Quote:

The South American trading bloc Mercosur has condemned President Trump for saying he was considering military action in the Venezuela crisis.

Argentina said dialogue and diplomacy were the only ways to promote democracy in Venezuela.

Venezuela's foreign minister said Mr Trump's words had been hostile and disrespectful and risked destablising Latin America.

Trump's threat of Venezuela military action could bolster Maduro
Quote:

CARACAS (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump's talk of possible military action in Venezuela could be a political life-line for the country's unpopular leader, who has long used the threat of U.S. aggression to justify policies that have shredded the economy.

President Nicolas Maduro has continued the free-spending socialist "revolution" started by his predecessor, the late Hugo Chavez, almost 20 years ago. Key to the populist rhetoric used by both is a constant drumbeat of warnings that the U.S. "empire" is planning an invasion to steal Venezuela's oil.

That threat was laughed off by the opposition and until Friday night, when Trump said a military option was not out of the question for dealing with the Venezuelan government's crackdown on the opposition and deepening social crisis.

Pence says 'failed state' in Venezuela threatens United States
Quote:

WASHINGTON/BOGOTA (Reuters) - U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said on Monday the United States would bring all its economic and diplomatic power to bear to see democracy restored in Venezuela, saying a failed state there threatens Americans.

"President (Donald) Trump has made it very clear that we will not stand by while Venezuela collapses into dictatorship," Pence told reporters in Cartagena, Colombia. "A failed state in Venezuela threatens the security and prosperity of our entire hemisphere and the people of the United States of America."

Trump slaps sanctions on Venezuela; Maduro sees effort to force default
Quote:

CARACAS/WASHINGTON/ (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order that prohibits dealings in new debt from the Venezuelan government or its state oil company on Friday in an effort to halt financing that the White House said fuels President Nicolas Maduro’s “dictatorship.”

Maduro, who has frequently blamed the United States for waging an “economic war” on Venezuela, said the United States was seeking to force Venezuela to default — but he said it would not succeed.

Venezuela says US sanctions will lead to halt in oil exports
Quote:

Venezuela's President Nicolás Maduro has said that a preliminary analysis shows that new financial sanctions imposed by the United States will lead to a halt in oil exports to the US.
Quote:

Separately on Friday, National Security Adviser HR McMaster said that the US was not planning military action in Venezuela "in the near future".

President Trump had controversially raised that possibility two weeks ago.

Trump's tough new sanctions will harm the people of Venezuela
Quote:

The Trump administration announced new, unprecedented sanctions against Venezuela on Friday that are designed to cut off financing to Venezuela. The Trump team pretends that the sanctions are only directed at the government. But as any economist knows, this is clearly false. By starving the economy of foreign exchange, this action will harm the private sector, most Venezuelans, the poor and the vulnerable.

Venezuela to prosecute those supporting U.S. sanctions
Quote:

CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuela will prosecute those who supported recent U.S. sanctions against the South American country, its Constituent Assembly, made up of government supporters, agreed on Tuesday.

Last week, Washington imposed financial sanctions against Caracas in an effort to cut back funds for the already severely cash-strapped government.
