If you haven't won a military victory in sixteen years, it's time to accept that there is no military victory to be had.
The President will address the nation tonight on our Afghanistan strategy, which is weird because Obama said we won that a long time ago...

You mean his strategy that involves sending four thousand more troops to Afghanistan for an indefinite period which will somehow magically result in "victory" even though we once had over a hundred thousand troops in Afghanistan and still couldn't utterly defeat the Taliban?

Yeah, great strategy. :oyvey

Common Americans are not ready yet to accept US defeat in Afghanistan. Your leaders need more time to zombie public opinion to make Americans view retreat as victory. This is the only strategy.
I think US propaganda must employ some Ukrainian propagandists, they are perfect in such stuff
I haven't read Trump's statement thoroughly, just had a brief glance across it, but one sentence cought my attention - local power will be left to local tribal chieftains, while Americans will be killing terrorists. If I cought this sentence correctly. So, the essence is that the US will cooperate with those Taliban lords who don't attack Americans much concentraiting on those who don't accept a relative truce, which will allow Ameticans to leave without completely loosing their face.
I.e. peaceful transition of power to Taliban vs. Taliban conquests everything by force kicking Americans out with a big bang... If you, Taliban, don't accept power peacefully we'll bomb you.... pleeeease..... :)

With Bannon back in charge, Breitbart is crushing Trump for his Afghanistan speech
Breitbart News, with former White House chief strategist Stephen K. Bannon back in charge, is ripping mad at President Trump after Monday's Afghanistan speech foreshadowed an increase in ground troops.

Last night's tele-prompter reading was a nothing burger except for its attacks on Pakistan and the alt-right. Trump reverses his decades-old positions on Afghanistan and dumps his voter base as the establishment takes over his shattered administration.

How cool is this that libs are finally turning to Breitbart as a source of accurate news and pro American opinion journalism....

A little slow on the uptick but a welcome addition....

Last night, President Trump laid out a matter-of-fact, easy to understand strategy for dealing with this major “incubator” of Islamic Extremist Activity, while at the same time putting the surrounding countries of Pakistan and India on warning that we will not tolerate their support of Islamic Terrorist Activities which threaten the entire globe.

His predecessor, Barack Hussein Obama, believed in a “Chamberlain-esque” Foreign Policy of appeasement, consisting of vague warnings, pay-offs, and drawing red lines in the sand.

It didn’t work.

In stark and vivid contrast to “Petulant President Pantywaist”, President Donald J. Trump has unabashedly adopted President Ronald Reagan’s Foreign Policy of “Peace Through Strength”.

And, knowing that, I feel safer already.

Did he? Did he really? Let's talk about his definition of "winning".

Quote:

Our troops will fight to win. We will fight to win. From now on, victory will have a clear definition. Attacking our enemies, obliterating ISIS, crushing Al Qaeda, preventing the Taliban from taking over Afghanistan and stopping mass terror attacks against America before they emerge.

So, victory by his definition is being willing to keep troops in Afghanistan forever and "preventing the Taliban from taking over Afghanistan". By that definition, we've been winning for 16 years. I'm not sure the country is up for infinite winning at this level.

Frankly I was little disappointed Trump called this a war and not a Overseas Contingency Operation... :shakeshead:

"First, I am going to talk tough so my minions have something to fap to. They love tough talk and I have all the best tough words.
Then we will do exactly what the previous administrations have done and expect different results. Every so often we will blow up a terrorist and I will take credit for it.
And if anything goes wrong, I will just blame Obama and Crooked Hillary or call reports on these problems "fake news" and declare that we are winning.
We will not interfere with how Afghanistan governs itself as long as the leaders are friendly to US business interest. And as long as the warlords play ball, we will not
interfere with their poppy harvest."
