The news just reported that the likely first strike by Hurricane Irma will be.....

Key Largo...!

Mozart
A little restaurant in Key Largo has as an attraction the (restored) boat used in the African Queen..
Won't be much hope in saving that I'm sure.
On the news tonight I noted a number of reports coming directly out of Key Largo! People are still there, and some are gonna hunker down for the storm.

Also, the tracking of the storm is now more towards the west, which means the danger to Miami and Ft. Lauderdale has been lessened. The storm seems to want to come ashore where the Everglades are located, which should dissipate a lot of its energy. Interesting!

What's funny today is watching the news media...

This hurricane is now, at this very minute, ripping the hell out of Cuba, ....and nobody cares.
The media barely mentions Cuba as the TRUE recipient of a Cat 5 hurricane. Smashed houses. Pounding surf. Real suffering. Real destruction. No one cares. Shrug shoulders.

Next, this hurricane is NOT gonna be a catastrophe. It's skipped-by Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, but will shred Ft. Myers and north. Were these people prepared? Naples? Tampa? The media scared the hell out of everyone, packed the interstates with fleeing residents, yet they got the impact point WRONG. Wow. That's the real story today.

No, the real story is the inexact science that is meteorology. The media reports what they are told.

The fisherman and lobster folks will be hard hit.

The harbors need to be cleared of debris, sunken boats etc .....before Cruise ships can return....

Tortola BVI has one of the largest charter yacht fleets in the world but don't have the man power to properly secure and anchor down a quarter of them.

More remote islands like Anegada BVI will be leveled.

What was eerie for me afterwards was not hearing the sounds of birds. It was months before we heard a single bird.

I've been told by people with experience in these matters that the period after a hurricane in these islands is even more dangerous than the hurricane itself, ....a breakdown of law and order. If you don't have a gun, ...oh boy. The cops are all too busy taking care of their own families and suddenly the whole island turns into the wild west. It's NOT a place for liberals......

Mozart
Very true...it was very wild west...so bad that there was essentially Marshal law....if you were out after dark without a pass signed by the Governor you would be detained and arrested.

Couldn't find ice or water but guns and drugs were rampant....

They hung a dude in public for raping a local Frenchie girl...

Interesting times...

Here is the headline out of St. Maarten tonight, exactly as we predicted....

Quote:

'There are no rules': Desperate stranded tourists tweet out of St Maarten as looters with 'guns and machetes' raid hotel rooms and stores
US tourists were among people trapped in hotels on St Martin as looters struck

One woman claimed that some were being attacked but it is not confirmed
A hotel manager said looters came to raid unoccupied rooms and took TVs
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte warns looting on St Martin a 'serious' problem
Extra troops called in to stop looters who witnesses say have guns and machetes
Many 'are surviving without power and running water' after Hurricane Irma hit
Up to 95 per cent of the island was destroyed in 185mph winds on Wednesday

Massimiliano Napoliello, the manager of a bar in Maho Beach, issued a desperate plea for help on Facebook.
'The situation in SXM is a HELL! NO WATER NO FOOD NO ELECTRICITY NO COMMUNICATION!!
'They are completely isolated and there are CRIMINALS carrying GUNS AND KNIVES SHOOTING and looting all over!! NOTHING IS WORKING, THERE ARE NO RULES, THERE IS NO LAW AND NO PROTECTION RIGHT NOW!!' he said.
At the Simpson Bay Resort and Marina, looters went in to unoccupied rooms to steal TVs, one staff member said on Twitter.

Hopefully the storm surge in Florida will be so high the looters will be unable to get to a neighborhood worth looting...If they get through they will face old geezers CCW..............

I think the media is losing it. I just heard an anchor telling a reporter on the ground in Key Largo, with 120 mph winds in the background, ask him if "he has a plan if things go bad?"

:rotflmao: :oyvey :rotflmao:

Humphrey Bogart is fine, so is Lauren, but the rest of em are treading water in the Atlantic...

Just a moment ago while watching a LIVE CAMERA somewhere in Florida I said to my wife you over there gave quite a problem with Irma.
- Well, she said, I don't feel any pity for Americans, I saw today on TV a correspondent asking random Americans in the street if they support war against North Korea - everyone said yes. And not a single man could point on the map where that Korea was.
They (Americans) have nothing human in them, at all, so whatever bad is happening to them is good.

Is it over yet?

Can I come out of the closet (so to speak.... :) ) now?

For over 6 long days the news media has been bombarding its viewers with warnings and threats. "Get off the streets you fools! Hurricane! Hurricane!" The little voices from the screen kept telling us to listen to them, the all knowing, the all seeing and the all powerful Gods from the 1984 moving picture tubes. With every update came a warning. High winds. Floods. Falling trees. Storm surges, ...galore. "What, you haven't abandoned your home yet?" Are you mad? Listen to us! Listen. We know. We got this hurricane thing down pat. We are the all-knowing Gods of human danger.

I'm tired, I need a drink..... :drinking:

Some final thoughts on hurricane Irma.....

In the British Virgin Islands "law and order" completely broke down. No law enforcement anywhere to be seen. As a matter of fact "they" opened-up the jails. The results were incredible. Terror among the populace. An inhumanity that would find its place in medieval times. Those with weapons did as they pleased. There were some astounding pleas for help on the internet. Have humans changed in 500 years? ...a thousand? Something to reflect on....

Quote:

The criminals did not miss their chance, overwhelming guards and fleeing the prison. Armed with machetes and guns, they have added another layer of terror and misery.
With the islands in meltdown, ragged groups of prisoners — among them some of the most notorious gang leaders in the Caribbean — roamed Tortola, robbing people and breaking into their homes. There were unconfirmed reports of rape.
Standing in the water beside their devastated home, Tim and Serena Ron, a couple with four children, told me these gangs had been wreaking mayhem.
‘They are robbing and looting and raping,’ Serena, 27, told me. ‘Everyone knows everyone here, and there are four escaped criminals driving around in a car in this area alone, trying to rob as much as they can.’
By last night, British soldiers had succeeded in rounding up more than 90 prisoners, who are now being held back at the jail, where the steel gate has been replaced.
‘We think we have got most of the really bad guys,’ one military source told me.

That was not a view shared by prison officers. ‘There are still more than 40 criminals on the loose and they ain’t no angels,’ one told me. ‘These are serious guys — killers and rapists. I wouldn’t be celebrating just yet.’
The Royal Marine Commandos were last night intensifying their manhunt for the remaining killers at large, with snipers positioned around the jail after it emerged that some criminals had crept back into the prison for meals, before returning to the streets.
‘It’s true that some were caught when they went back to the jail for meals, thinking the prison officers would no longer be there,’ a British military officer told me. ‘We were there instead and rounded them up after searching the cells and finding crude home-made weapons.’
Such is the lawlessness that the military are enforcing a street curfew from 6pm to 9am, with anyone caught out during that time facing immediate arrest.
