![]() TORONTO — As he tells it, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont fell in love with the Canadian health system 20 years ago when he brought a busload of his constituents across the border to buy cheaper prescription drugs. Now he wants to make Americans fall in love with his proposal to make the United States system a lot more like Canada’s. That’s one reason he took the equivalent of a busload of staffers, American health care providers and journalists to Toronto last weekend, in a two-day trip that was part immersion, part publicity tour. Canadian government officials and hospital executives showed him high-tech care, compassionate providers and satisfied patients, all as videographers recorded. He ended the trip with a speech at the University of Toronto titled, “What the U.S. Can Learn From Canadian Health Care.” But our question is this: What did Bernie Sanders learn from his weekend in Canada? https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/02/upshot/bernie-sanders-went-to-canada-and-learned-a-few-things.html |

All you have to do is move to if you want to live under a social regime ![]() Nearly half of all U.S. millennials believe the greatest safe space of them all would be living under a socialist regime. That’s according to a new study from research firm YouGov and Washington, D.C.-based Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, which surveyed over 2,000 people regarding their views on socialism and the communist political system. The biggest takeaway from the study was that one out of every two millennials surveyed said they would rather live in a socialist or communist country over a capitalist democracy like the U.S. “Millennials now make up the largest generation in America, and we're seeing some deeply worrisome trends," Marion Smith, executive director of the foundation said in a statement to Fox News. "Millennials are increasingly turning away from capitalism and toward socialism and even communism as a viable alternative.” Nearly 45 percent of millennials polled said that they would prefer to live in a socialist country compared to the 42 percent who said they preferred a capitalist one. Another 7 percent said that the preferred living in a communist country above all. The findings show that the percentage of millennials who prefer socialism over capitalism if a full 10 points higher than that of the general population. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/11/03/millennials-think-socialism-would-create-great-safe-space-study-finds.html Edited by Sammy, Nov 4 2017, 11:09 AM.

Fun fact - immigration into Canada is very strict and metric based. Similar to what Trump would like to do in the US. |

Canada Welcomed Refugees, but Now Struggles With Backlog A wave of asylum seekers entering Canada this year has exacerbated a backlog of refugee claims that the government is struggling to manage, leaving tens of thousands of people stuck in bureaucratic limbo even as they try to build new lives. Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Board says it has a backlog of 40,700 cases. More than 10,000 asylum seekers have crossed illegally into Quebec from the United States since July alone. But the board has the money and staff to process just 24,000 cases a year, meaning that many people will have to wait around 16 months for their case to be heard. Carlos Slim's Blog

Trudeau adviser says 'we have more work to do as a government' to make supports equitable By Kathleen Harris, CBC News Posted: Nov 04, 2017 5:00 AM ET| Last Updated: Nov 04, 2017 5:00 AM ET The Liberal government says it's committed to bringing more LGBT refugees to Canada, but advocates say funding uncertainty, lengthy processing and lack of specialized training for visa officers are threatening resettlement efforts. Next year, Canada will bring in about 43,000 refugees, among them lesbian, gay, transgender and other people facing persecution based on sexual orientation. Sharalyn Jordan, chair of the B.C-based Rainbow Refugee, said lives are at risk in nearly 80 countries which outlaw certain sexual orientation. Her organization has resettled 95 sponsored LGBT refugees with the assistance of federal funding. But she's worried that money will soon dry up. ■ Canada to admit nearly 1 million immigrants over next 3 years ■Canada immigration explained: 9 questions answered http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/funding-uncertainty-could-stall-lgbt-refugee-resettlement-advocates-say-1.4386646 |

Canada and Australia lack nukes....In the event of a full scale nuclear war, they must desperately try to find someone to surrender to............

There will be no-one to surrender to if there's a full scale nuclear war. There will be nobody left. Well maybe a few Tasmanians and Kiwis or the scientists huddled at the South Pole in Antarctica. On the other hand there will be no need to nuke OZ or Canada or the other non nuclear countries 'cause they will not be retaliating. They will all die from fallout anyway but later than the countries blasting each other off the planet with direct hits. Maybe you have a bunker Robert Stout? As usual your response about nukes has nothing whatsoever to do with what the newspaper item said about the different merits of Canadian life versus American life. Maybe Canadians need that extra 2.5 years of living time for when they are in the doctor's waiting room reading the old magazines? Maybe a very free Canadian who isn't in jail and seems to be much happier can afford to wait that time being polite and happier than most other folks in the world? Maybe that Canadian who needs to wait could get a neurologist degree with all that extra time? Or just get any degree or just hang out in the home that he owns? Maybe the Canadian could make some more money and move up into the moneyed class so he could go down to the States to dish out his entire assets to save his brain? Or he could fly to somewhere else in the world like India, Australia, France, Mexico to move up the waiting list quicker? By the time the Canadian gets to see his Canadian neurologist perhaps there will be a cure for whatever ails him. Or he could be dead. No more waiting. No more to worry about. Except that he may need to worry about the fallout from Robert Stout's scenario and could use his waiting period to build a Superman type bunker fortress under the ice? |

So you won't have to find anyone to surrender to Robert Stout? You will be comfortable in your lounge chair. We folks won't have to surrender either. Later rather than sooner we will all be dead if there is a nuclear tragedy. Duck n cover and kiss your arse goodbye. |
