AMHERST, S.D. (AP) — TransCanada Corp.'s Keystone pipeline leaked an estimated 210,000 gallons of oil onto agricultural land in northeastern South Dakota, the company and state regulators said Thursday, but state officials don't believe the leak polluted any surface water bodies or drinking water systems. Crews shut down the pipeline Thursday morning and activated emergency response procedures after a drop in pressure was detected resulting from the leak south of a pump station in Marshall County, TransCanada said in a statement. The cause was being investigated. Discovery of the leak comes just days before Nebraska regulators are scheduled to announce their decision Monday whether to approve the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline, an expansion that would boost the amount of oil TransCanada is now shipping through the existing line, which is known simply as Keystone. The expansion has faced fierce opposition from environmental groups, American Indian tribes and some landowners. https://www.yahoo.com/news/keystone-pipeline-leaks-210k-gallons-230601176.html |

What is really sad is they put this pipeline in using eminent domain over the objection of the property owners. But it is the property owners that have to deal with the repercussions of leaks like this soiling their property. You can bet that Keystone also got the local politicians to add laws that limit Keystone's liability. |

Of course they did. Many of the industry loopholes were put in place by Dick and George (the Halliburton Administration) in 2004 - 2005. This is the most difficult type of oil to clean up also, especially heading into the winter months when extreme weather will surely slow it down. Edited by _g R_, Nov 17 2017, 04:18 PM.

Every time there is a leak from an oil pipeline there is the potential for someone's aquifer to be irreversibly damaged. |

"Another environmental disaster complements of the Trump administration, thanks largely to his administration's presidential permit." Bit quick on the blame game aren't you TransCanada says on its website that the company has safely transported more than 1.5 billion barrels of oil, or about 63 billion gallons, through the system since operations began in 2010. Surely you must remember the day in 2016 when your party got Trumped.... :oyvey |

Any time 20,000 protesters take a dump on the ground, someone's aquifer is irreversibly damaged and 10,000 antelope are injured when running........

Obama did very little to stop the Keystone XL and his response to the worst oil spill ever ( BP - 2010 ) was pathetic, so you have a good point there. |
