US government’s demand that RT America register as a foreign agent was greeted by loud silence from human rights watchdogs and press freedom groups. Former US Marine captain Matthew Hoh sent us this letter of support.. |

RT is not an independent news source. They are owned and governed by the Russian government. There is plenty of evidence the government dictates editorial content. That makes it like the old Radio Moscow, a propaganda tool. |

It should be noted that the former Captain's organization is similar to the ACLU, who also defend Nazis and Klansmen, their personal opinions of their clients notwithstanding, his group appears no less committed to protecting the Bill of Rights. |

Oh you mean a counter-narrative to the echo chamber of establishment group think and American Exceptionalism that pervades, dominates and dictates the content of American main stream media ? I'll buy that. So what's the problem ? |

Veterans For Peace, World Beyond War, Center for International Policy are similar to the ACLU. Everything he says is true, but we should just ignore it because we've decided liberals are bad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3gYk9hXxn8 Edited by _g R_, Nov 18 2017, 01:32 PM.

Not saying ignore it, but this has nothing to do with liberals, RT is a propaganda arm of the Russian government, no less strident in their editing then the Soviet Pravda was. The good Captain's organization is merely supportive of the Bill of Rights, not so much RT in my opinion. |

If you believe that I feel bad for you. RT's strings are pulled directly from the Kremlin. That makes them worse than any American media company. It is like Voice of America. It is directly a spin out of Radio Moscow from the old days. If you cannot see this then you are blind. It does no more good for Leftists to get sucked into this operation than it was for American Communists to be involved with the old Soviet Union. Yes we need an independent media, this is not it. |

You obviously never watch it because RT America definitely does not push any Russian propaganda or agendas...none of the commentary shows or any of the news broadcasts. This is about propaganda in the western media and the establishment attacking any other narratives. The same way Google and Facebook now moniter the Internet and it goes straight to NSA and CIA. So? What does that have to do with this topic? There are many Chinese companies that are government control that have bought American companies. |

RT America is a news organization operating in the United States that is funded at least partly by a foreign government. So is the BBC. So is Deutsche Welle, France24, Al-Jazeera, and numerous other foreign media organizations. It is assumed that they all to a degree reflect the editorial interests of those who pay the bills. The same is true with other, non-state funded media outlets, of course. It's up to us to factor these things in when we consume media. That's what it means to be a free people. A core value in a free society is that our own government has zero power over what we read, what we watch, how we think, how we come to interpret current events, the conclusions we draw based on these inputs, and so on. These are private matters over which any government that is not tyrannical should have no sway. The real insidiousness of tyrannical systems is that the government most lasciviously seeks control over most private spaces - including the most private space called our brain, our intellect, our conscience. We must be free to follow our interests down whatever path they may lead us so that we may reach our own conclusions and then perhaps test them ourselves in the marketplace of ideas. This core value is currently under attack in the United States, a country that has, thanks to our Founders, enjoyed one of the finest traditions of press freedom in history. Today the United States Justice Department informed RT America that of all the foreign-funded media companies operating in the United States they alone must register as agents of a foreign government under the 1938 Foreign Agents Registration Act. The move without doubt reflects the neocon-inspired continuing push for a Cold War 2.0, which has been bizarrely joined by frustrated supporters of former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. |

RT America has been implicated as a tool of the Russian government in their campaign to influence the presidential election. I have not seen those charges against any other foreign media outlet. The fact is all the government has done is tell them to register as a foreign agent reflecting their activities during the campaign. They are still free to broadcast their propaganda and you are still free to watch it. |

I'd read the fine print first, especially after Obama extended the Patriot Act and made it far worse by signing the NDAA. Rachel Maddow is the worst propaganda tool on TV, and she would rather start a war with Russia than apologize for inadvertently helping to rig the election for Trump. What's all this about influence? Voters can make up their own minds in elections. That's the whole point of democracy.

The point of democracy is to give the people the illusion of control that may be exercised as a pressure release valve. |

Nice speech, I wonder how it would play in Moscow... I don't think you understand how much free-er you are to think and speak here than you would be in Russia, where they kill journalists for perceived slights. Just sayin'. No offense bro, because I think we need people who are somewhat skeptical, but you're really myopic on this topic. Siberian has his own agenda trying to disguise the fact that Russia sucks, you're just seemingly so anti govt(just your own govt, mind you) that you'll apparently believe any other govt's word about your govt... and that's pretty nuts. |

Ok . I 'm sure that's why Ozzy Osbourne chose to tour in Mexico, South America and Russia in 2018 . Are you calling Ozzy a communist or just being a typical brainwashed conservative ? https://www.songkick.com/artists/365190-ozzy-osbourne Edited by _g R_, Nov 21 2017, 12:59 AM.

may I ask, are you with Tsalagi (former) military? You seem not to get the very concept of multiple competing news sourses (whatever they are) as a basis of democracy. You need it to be jusy one, but a kosher one from your point of view. And better conveyed in the form of an order... ( or accompanued with an order banning alternative opinions)
