I get the concept of multiple competing news sources. I also get the concept of propaganda and state-run "news" sources. RT is a state run news source who's primary purpose is to advance the interests of the state (Russia) and to negatively impacts its opponents.
With that in mind, I can watch RT but I do not consider it an credible journalistic news outlet.
As opposed to the US mainstream media that has been legitimizing a buffoon like Donald Trump
for the past 6 or 7 years going back to the Obama birth certificate fiasco ?
By the way, RT America is like it's own company and manages it's own content, separate from RT.
separate from RT
lol... there isn't much you won't swallow...
The US media helped the Bush administration lie us into the Iraq War and the American people swallowed it hook line and sinker.
Would you like my entire list of ways in which the US corporate media has been complicit in undermining the well being of our society and damaging our democracy ?
they didn't have to 'lie us into the war'... they could as easily have said Iraq is violating the terms of its no fly zone, which it was, or shooting at our planes patrolling the NFZ, which they were. Public sentiment for going into Iraq was overwhelming. The war wasn't the problem, the occupation was, but that's not really for this thread - this is you trying to change the topic from your embarrassing conclusion that RT America is different from RT Russia.
As I said man, you'll swallow whole ANYTHING that comes from alternet and pretend that you're searching for the troof. It doesn't seem to matter how many thousands of times they're wrong because at some point you just know that they're going to be right about... something.

RT is not an independent news source. They are owned and governed by the Russian government. There is plenty of evidence the government dictates editorial content. That makes it like the old Radio Moscow, a propaganda tool.
may I ask, are you with Tsalagi (former) military? You seem not to get the very concept of multiple competing news sourses (whatever they are) as a basis of democracy. You need it to be jusy one, but a kosher one from your point of view. And better conveyed in the form of an order... ( or accompanued with an order banning alternative opinions)

I think the Trump supporters would disagree with your characterization of the MSM coverage of Trump. Even Fox has been critical of him.
I also think you are looking through rose colored glasses if you think RT America is independent.

Remember Jesse Ventura, who MSNBC paid $1 million dollars to walk away from his show contract because he opposed the Iraq War ? ( shortly after they fired Phil Donahue and others for the same reason) Why is that ? Oh yeah they were owned by GE , one of the world's biggest weapons manufacturers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ix241jg7dBc

Our mass media should be required to register as agents of multinational corporations..............

Buckfan, don't search for an altimate bews sourse which will tell you thec"truth", judt get dure you form an indeoendent own opinion having got aquainted with opposite views... This is how democracy works - competition, not monopolism.
So, Jake, it is just the beginning, I don't finish the topic with this post, I will both ask you questions and answer yours - already put and any future ones - if you are not a complete dumbass of course. now we're comparing NGO activity and reaction of authorities by both countries. freedom of press will be later. but here please swallow one of your lies. this is the site and press-release of US-financed Levada polling center, (mentiobed by you, I will talk on CIA-financed American NGOs later), which is not only open but even posts its polls' results without any note that it is an American agent (I am surprised myself since I read the law on foreign agents stipulates they must). Do you know yourself what a hysteria it would be if Russia was financing a US nation-wide polling center before elections? Russian presidential elections are due next spring. 7 thousand dollars spent by Russian citizens (not government) on ads in Twitter are presented as Putin's involvement in US elections. And note the headline (while the poll was of both negative and positive sides), the incline of comment of an "expert" - an expert works for a joint venture news company too, i.e. also financed by foreign states, but I have to check it out to be sure, you can fo it yourself - RBC or РБК ..
So, generally, Russia is much more free than the US, Russians can access much broader range of opinions than Americans with absolutely totalitarian US MSM and complete control on news and witch hunt on any alternative opinion.
and you are lied too and you are too a Russophobic zombie to even want to learn you are lied to.
some idiots here love to repeat that Putin kill people for alternative opinions... not supporting Putin, he's a n asshole in many other things, but judt for the sake of objectuvity I have nothing but say - he does not in the US people are persecuted not just for an alternative opinion, but for not repeating the state propaganda! let Trump say that Russians did not interviene in elections, I will watch it... he must, just must publicly repeat again and again - Russisns intervuened...
Just imagine such an article on Obama financed by Russia... In Free Russia you can easilly do it - I here post a really existing article, you can check by yoursrlf, in Totalitarian American GULAG you can't. give me a single example...
RUSSIANS HAVE CALLED THE ABSENCE OF CARE FOR ORDINARY PEOPLE THE MAIN MINUS OF PUTIN
11/20/2017 Версия для печати print version To the question that they do not like Vladimir Putin in the Russian president, 15% of Russians answered that he "does not care" and "forgot about ordinary people", 10% believe that he is too "soft to the ministers" and is in the power of his entourage, 7% blame the leader of the country for not "fighting corruption" and "spreading thieves around him." Such data was presented by the Levada Center following the results of the October poll of the opinion of Russians about the head of state (available to RBC). The question was open, that is, the respondents themselves called the characteristics inherent, in their opinion, the president, sociology similar in their meaning united in one. Respondents could give more than one answer.
Further, the list of the most popular reasons why respondents do not like the president is followed by poverty and low salaries of the population (6%), the president's verbosity (5%), problems in the country's economy (4%), Putin's too much attention to foreign policy and defense country (4%), its authoritarianism (3%). US-financed Levada polling center
please provide some documentation that Levada is US financed VTsIOM became widely respected for its objectivity and professionalism among academics and journalists in both the Soviet Union and the West. In the 1990s, the agency's polls gained a reputation for being very reliable.[a 1]
Although VTsIOM received no budget money and funded itself with private-sector polling contracts from the breakdown of Soviet Union in 1992 to 2003, Levada had not addressed the fact that the polling agency remained a state-owned agency on paper.
This allowed the state to employ a legal technicality and appoint a new board of directors in September 2003, composed mainly of its officials, to oversee the work of VTsIOM. None of VTsIOM's sociologists were among these government appointments. Before that, VTsIOM had conducted over 1,000 polls [4].
Levada stated that the Kremlin move was aimed in part at silencing growing public opposition to the Chechen war in the election season. (In recent years, the Kremlin has employed similar legal maneuvers to take over the independent NTV, TV-6 and TVS networks.)
After VTsIOM's management was forcibly changed, Levada and some of his colleagues quit their jobs (and, moreover, the equipment and resources that they had used for 15 years) to start up a new private polling agency, which they named Analytical Service VTsIOM (or VTsIOM-A). VTsIOM-A was renamed Yuri Levada Analytical Center (or Levada-Center) in March 2004.
...because as you can see from even a minimum of research, the govt has consistently tried to dismantle/disrupt Levada, the latest effort being the foreign agent designation and huge fines for not registering as such, which they've done to numerous other Russian entities(examples were provided) who attempt to provide independent sources of information. Because very few Russians speak a foreign language, the Kremlin can monopolize the free flow of information by taking control of the media, which it is continually seeking to do, making it nearly impossible for the average Russian, or in your case, the less than average Russian, to understand what's going on. It's unfortunate that so many Russians prefer this to be the case.
The internet has numerous translation programs that work on the fly.

Jake, you are going to loose due to the very simple fact that I state that Russia and the US are almost twin brothers I don't pretend Russia to be a democracy, I refute your false statement that the US is a democracy Frankly saying, I don't believe in democracy, either that it exists at all or that it is more efficient in any condition. So, we just can comparevthe level of control of mass mefia by the establishment/elites/government. In case of Levada - I have no docs of course and did not search for them, I had no reasons to be sure it was American financing, but it most probably was an American financing. Now after I got interested I will search for more info of course. But anyway I doubt Russian authorities eould claim Levada a foreign agent without formal excuse. As well, as you agree (I hope) since it is a private polling center anyone, including foreign states, agencies, false flag CIA "roof" companies may pay for polls and they do it . Anyway, I will search for docs or links.
But, of course you can clearly see that whatever the status of Levada center is - it functions freely, obviously providing an info with a clear bias or incline - only marginal number of Russians mentioned negative sides of Putin, while the headline states " RUSSIANS HAVE CALLED THE ABSENCE OF CARE FOR ORDINARY PEOPLE THE MAIN MINUS OF PUTIN" and most people don't read further, actually the headline is the news. And then an expert explains, thst even those Russians who pointed on positive sides did not mean it at all, but negative ones are huuuuge...
I say all this just to undeline - that despite all your awul description duddenly it turns out that neither oppodition is silent, nor "foreign agents" are closed, even more - they are allowed to clearly lead their anti-Putin campaign (the article above is a clear evidence) and even don't nesessarilly mention in their articles that they are foreign agents - and this is the main problem for a news organisation of course. While research center is not a news organization. Its info is not censored by the government. While the US foreign agents requirement imposes censorship on the very product a news organization creates, altering it in favour of the US government. The very news text is censored and changed by the US government, since it stipulates to insert mentioning of being a foreign agent in it. Or not?
Then, of course the access of Russians to foreign news sources is limited - not by the government, but by the lack of foreign Russian speaking sources and even more - its low quality.
For example, in the net there ate numerous Ukrainian Russian speaking sites which exceede US Russiagate hysteria by much. They can be essilly accessed but are not popular. Because you can eadilly get a balsnced view in much better Russian sites, including oposition ones. But even opposition sites are not very popular because pro-Western liberals have discredited themselves in 90s and people just hate them. Putin consolidated so much power because most Russians did not mind - I am not among them, I just state the fact. And dtill there are many popular and important media - most business nrws outlets are joint ventures with Western nees corporations and are quite critical (thougn not being in open opposition) to Putin.
Generally, the fact - we have much, much greater access to alternative views, to any news, to opposition news. Much less monopoly on information. There are mainstream TV channels here too with auful, almost as awful propaganda as in the US, but they are much less influential, mostly elderly Russian rednecks watch them.... or babushkas... And actually RT is the only real alternative view provided in the US. Zerohedge is also excellent - in economy, in politics they are quite biased though...
I just read about procedure of registering RT America as a foreign agent, it seems it doesn't have to mention in every news that it's "foreign agent". Well, not bad , it seems both sudes still have a kit of space for manuevring...
Goood morning GULAG!!!
