| College athletic programs could lose millions to House’s tax bill | |

College athletic administrators are worried that proposed reforms in the House's tax bill, which passed Thursday, will have major effects on their programs' funding. Colleges across the country rely on fans to make substantial donations before they purchase season tickets for premium seats and as a result, athletic programs can give their customers a nice tax break. "If that deduction goes away, what you will see is a dramatic sea change in the college sports landscape," said Duke athletic director Kevin White, per ESPN.com. "We need to put speed bumps up now to slow this thing down, because I don't think the politicians have any idea how much this will pull apart our system." With section 1306 of the bill, tax deductions on charitable donations related to tickets would come to an end. The donations often bring in more money than the tickets themselves for college sports, and many athletic administrators are concerned that without the tax break, consumers will simply stop making donations. http://www.sportingnews.com/ca/ncaa-football/news/college-sports-ncaa-tax-bill-house-proposal-season-ticket-donation/1hhcbujpvoncb1n4o4k752a9uk |

I’d rather just get rid of title 9 |

Athletic programs are worthless and waste of money. We should invest in math and science. China is working on building a better human being whereas the US is pouring money into athletic programs that has no beneficial for the average person. |

Cheers to that. Heck, one of the few good things about the European way of doing things is that sports are all private clubs- public education should have nothing whatsoever to do with sports- be it college, high school, or below. |

Just elsewhere. I'd been getting all the politics I needed from RCP. I guess I got the forum bug again after spending some time in a xxxxxxxx forum trying to get into the game IRL. (Edit - other forums may not be mentioned) Edited by Coast2coast, Nov 19 2017, 06:18 PM.

Welcome back. Things are a lot nastier here, much more than the old Perspectives board. Edited by Coast2coast, Nov 19 2017, 06:19 PM.
