A young woman has raised over $160,000 for a homeless man who, she said, spent his last $20 to buy her gas after she became stranded on a major interstate.

Hear, hear, T. It's not the stuff, it's the people. We made these folks a deal, and we're not holding up our end.

There were over 20,000 wounded in the first 10 years of conflict, many due to IED's, if I had my way, there wouldn't be a new weapons system for 20 years, not a ship built, not a piece of artillery replaced.

I'd build palaces for VA hospitals, when I go there were 30 vets for 1 Doctor, there should 1 Doctor for every 10 vets, 1 psychiatrist/psychologist per 10 vets. The department's dealing with artificial limb replacement should have the best technology out there, cutting edge tech. At least a year spent in rehab free with a personal trainer.

These guys would not get some measly disability check, it'd the full check they received at their full rank not including COLA every year, which would be a generous COLA mind you.

Veteran's homeless shelters should be secured high rises with a safe, secure environment with nursing and physician's living in the building.

These men have given their full measure of devotion, and yet, we have to endure the bureaucracy or worse, bean counters looking to suck up by cutting funding of the bloated VA.

Trump is pro TALKING about veterans, much like pro repeal of Obamacare and tax cuts for the middle class, neither of which have happened and probably won't.

SIEGEL: Now, Quil, Secretary Shulkin may be a true reformer, but he's also a true holdover from the Obama administration - so not a radical change from the VA leadership. Has that been well-received?

LAWRENCE: Yes. I think the continuity has been appreciated. Shulkin spoke at the Legion today, too, and he got a great reception. I should say the VA still isn't fully staffed up. There are no nominees for the top three positions under Shulkin. But he, Shulkin, has been announcing big changes, including slaughtering some sacred cows.

SIEGEL: Now, the president and the VA secretary also mentioned today the continuation of the Veterans Choice Program which lets veterans get care outside the VA system.

Note the word CONTINUATION in the 2nd quote. That bill was first passed in 2014. Someone else was President then.

To be fair, this isn't a Democrat/Republican thing, both parties use us up when in uniform for their political benefit, in uniform, wave the flag, photo ops, and just as quickly forget about us when we take it off for the last time.

As for helping a vet, I do, and will continue, I'm helping to draft legistlation with the Tribal Council for a new veteran's home within our community.

What I want to know is why you feel the help they should be getting is just privatized. We blow billions on war toys, and far less on the men who wield them, and then after they've stopped wielding them and they come back to the world, they are expected to just pull themselves up by their bootstraps and get back to being civilians.

QUIL LAWRENCE, BYLINE: Well, he has signed some important laws. Very recently he put through something that's called The Forever GI Bill, which extended GI Bill benefits to more people and allow them to use it for a longer amount of time. There's a VA Accountability Act which makes it easier to fire misbehaving VA officials. And Trump mentioned today some changes in the way VA clinics will operate.

LAWRENCE: In fact he signed another law on stage at the convention today which makes it faster and easier for vets to appeal their VA decision about disability ratings. Now, many of these ideas are bipartisan consensus ideas as they have been around for years. But now they're moving relatively fast through Congress to the president's pen.

SIEGEL: This is worth noting here. You're talking about Congress acting in a bipartisan fashion, sending legislation quickly to the president. He's signing it. This is the exception to the rule in Washington these days, Quil.

I read that. Congrats, he signed a bill, and extended both Obama's VA SEC and his Veterans' Choice Program.

Not exactly as you suggested above: "Brah....Trump's pro veterans....Obama? Nope....not in the slightest...."

Give the guy his credit. I gave Trump his.
