http://money.cnn.com/2017/11/23/news/companies/holiday-shopping-make-break-season/index.html Economic conditions are good -- unemployment is the lowest it's been in 17 years, and credit is cheap and easily available. And shoppers are expected to spend more than ever before. A survey by the National Retail Federation found that 59% of shoppers plan to shop online this year, marking the first time that online is the most popular choice for shoppers. For the first time ever, more people say they plan to shop online than in big box stores such as Walmart (WMT) and Target (TGT). "The holiday season is always important, but this year is more important than ever," said Robert Schulz, the chief credit analyst for the retail sector for Standard & Poors. He expects strong spending this holiday season but cautions that won't necessarily translate into good news for brick-and-mortar retailers. "Department stores are struggling to prove they are still relevant," he said. |

Quite honestly, there is nothing they're willing to put on sale at a price I consider tempting enough that would convince me to deal with the crowds, knowing that whatever it is I'm after is probably already sold out in the first minutes. On the average, people are stupid. And they get even stupider with concentrated in large numbers. No thanks, I'll stay home in my nice, quiet living room. |

Some people will always be out at the stores on Black Friday because they enjoy it. It's a madhouse, it's uncomfortable, and possibly dangerous. No thank you. The internet is right here and can off free delivery. That doesn't mean I wouldn't miss stores in general but not so much the big places that offer "door-buster" deals. |
