The girlfriend of Philando Castile, the cafeteria worker who was shot and killed in 2016 by a Minnesota police officer during a traffic stop, will receive $800,000 in connection to the killing.

Diamond Reynolds and her daughter, who was 4 when Castile was shot in front of them, will receive $675,000 from the city of St. Anthony, Minn., with an additional $125,000 from the city of Roseville and the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust.

Had the police officer been given jail time for his actions I might think that this settlement was a bit much. Since the cop basically got to execute an innocent man and had zero consequences I honestly think this is not enough.

Then again, Castile's mother got $3 million. Still, the city needs to work on it's police training programs and the cop should be in jail.

She was in the car when the cop executed her innocent boyfriend. So yep, she gets a settlement.

To be honest, I think her young daughter deserves the settlement more than the woman. That cop executed a man in front of her for no reason at all. The police officer was living in a fantasy world where he was in a Lethal Weapon or Dirty Harry movie. He carried out his sick fantasy in the real world with real people.

The kid is going to be seeing head shrinks for the rest of her life. $800k is probably too little.

The officer said Castile kept moving even though he told him not to, reaching down and putting his hand on something. “I thought he had a gun in his hand,” Yanez said later. Yanez feared for his life, he said, and the lives of his partner as well as the two passengers in the car.

Justified.

The officer never saw a gun and Castile never drew a gun. The officer had his weapon drawn AND he had an additional officer backing him up. His fear was irrational since he is supposed to be a trained law enforcement officer not some pansy child who has never seen a gun.

The officer approached the vehicle with the intent to attack the man who he had decided before he ever got there was guilty because in the officer's mind he looked like someone who had committed a robbery. The officer then discharged his firearm into the drive in the direction of a child. Had the bullets gone through Castile it could have killed the child.

Police should be held to the same standard in the US that our troops are held to in friendly nations. No firing until fired upon.

This guy made up his mind that he had a guilty person and then he executed him. For nothing.
