President Trump says the tax bill will ‘cost me a fortune.’ That’s false.; Fake news or fuzzy math?

“This is going to cost me a fortune, this thing, believe me. This is not good for me. . . . I think my accountants are going crazy right now.”
— President Trump, remarks on tax plan, St. Charles, Mo., Nov. 29, 2017

There have been many times when we have thrown patently ridiculous claims made by the president into our database of false and misleading claims, only to decide later that we need to do a full fact check because the president keeps repeating the falsehood.

With the tax bill passed in the House and pending in the Senate, this is one of those moments. Back in September, Trump claimed he would not benefit from the tax plan, twice in offhand remarks with reporters and once in a speech. “It’s not good for me,” he claimed. It seemed so silly that it was not worthy of a full fact check.

But now, Trump has doubled down on the claim — saying the tax bill would “cost me a fortune, believe me.” He even asserted that his accountants “are going crazy now” but that he didn’t care because he is now the president and “this is a higher calling.”

I read that the tax cut bill will actually cost a fourth of Americans money...Targeted losers are high property tax States, SJWs trying to pay student loans, graduate students earning tuition exemptions, and other obvious Democrats....Losing elections have consequences............. :nana:

The loss of the SALT deduction will effect some states more than others. It effects states with income taxes, sales taxes etc. The states which have higher tax burdens are the states that have the money to provide state services -- education, roads etc. The states which are poor are already behind in those areas. States in trouble -- Kansas not California -- are going to find it harder to pick themselves up. Poor whites with no education have voted disproportionately for Trump. This provision is intended to increase their numbers. It's cynical at best.

New Hampshire does indeed have high property taxes. We also, however, have NO SALES OR INCOME taxes so the total effect from loss of the SALT deduction won't be alarming. More to the point, we have a very well-educated workforce, lots of valuable property in the form of out-of-state luxury vacation homes, a strong high-tech industry etc. etc. You need not worry about the Granite State. More of concern in your silly post is the notion that federal policy, tax and otherwise, is a zero-sum contest between the states. More thoughtful citizens consider the over-all welfare of the American people as the highest priority. Of course, racist bigots obsessed with "internal enemies" in their own states, people like refugees, hispanics, immigrants, poor people etc. lose sight of the larger picture of the United States of America (emphasis on "United"). The conservative pathology has infected your patriotism and destroyed your patriotic joy. I feel sorry for you...
