http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2017/12/11/daredevil-climber-dies-after-plunge-from-chinese-skyscraper.html A daredevil climber was attempting to scale a 62-story skyscraper in China when he plunged to his death, according to media reports. Wu Yongning, a so-called “rooftopper,” had earned a huge following on social media by climbing tall buildings without safety equipment and posting vertigo-inducing selfies and videos online. However, the 26-year-old fell from the top of the 62-story Huayuan Hua Centre in the Chinese city of Changsha, The Telegraph reports. |

We would probably need to know if he had any children already to be certain on the Darwin Award here but I do commend him on his work in proving that gravity exists as more than just a theory... |

Lived his life on his own terms....went out the same way.....gotta respect that.... btw on a side note D last night I had about a 2-3 hour conversation with an/perhaps the upper level engineer for the Musk space co....we talked about current launches, future launches, their business model moving forward, their competition, foreign gov'ts, Mars, AI and robotics and more....fascinating stuff....changed the way I thought about that company and their founder.... The big surprise was their long term revenue model ..... |

It is a fascinating company. One of the things that was interesting to me is how much they build themselves. At the time that I was looking into it (a couple years ago) they were essentially building everything in house and that went all they way down to the cameras that they mount on the rockets in order to give everyone such nice video of their launches and landings. They have many very talented people working for them all across the country. Edited by Demagogue, Dec 11 2017, 04:01 PM.

This dude is in the inner circle....was telling me that Musk has demanded a one day turn around from launch, payload delivered, land and ready to relaunch....right now they are at about 37 days. Pushing their team hard. Also interesting news on the oft forgotten Space station.... What was also fascinating is the total annual valuation of rocket launches, how much of it they have and project to have and how that's not really enough to fund future projects and how they plan on tapping into a market at least 10 times more while pigging backing off their paying clients to do it.... Brilliant ....very similar strategy we us but obviously for us on a much smaller scale....

I have never talked to anyone inner circle but I have been expecting big things from them since December 2010. Most of the folks I have talked to were former and current NASA folks. Then over the years I had the opportunity to bring up SpaceX in conversations with folks who work for the ULA and other competing companies. None of them had anything good to say about what SpaceX was doing but you could tell that it was defensive negativity. The ULA folks were concerned but they were not too concerned because the launch cadence was slow and the landings kept failing. Then SpaceX started to figure out landing the first stage and the tone changed a little. Once SpaceX started getting landings regularly the tone changed again. Now, the ULA types don't want to talk about SpaceX or they have a "yabut" type response. Mind you, none of this was official talk, just shop talk over lunch or drinks over dinner with folks that work in the industry but not for SpaceX. Personally, I have likened they way that SpaceX gets things done to how the US and NASA got things done in this area in the 1950's and 1960's. Because they are not afraid to have a failure they have been able to achieve great things. At this juncture you probably know much more about their future financial plans than I do. I have some concerns about their planned future rockets because frankly, what they want to do is truly ambitious but this far, they have been able to reach their goals. I am very interested to see the Falcon Heavy launch next month. The thing may explode on lift off for all we know but if they pull it off and can put that monster into service things will get interesting. Edited by Demagogue, Dec 11 2017, 04:41 PM.

Of course this all ties into this topic since the most expensive part of any space business venture is getting out of the earth's gravity well. SpaceX is making escaping earth's Gravity far less expensive which can hopefully lead to big things in the future. |

Let me just say this individual was in for progress on the testing for that rocket....explained to me something about how it's actually two rockets in one....which went over my head Though I am heavy into tech I am not a tech guy so I was more interested in the business models, the financials, future endeavors and why.... |
