Personally I think they should go for something similar to what Australia has if they are going to change anything. The ACA was supposed to put the brakes on the ever increasing cost of health care in the USA. It failed to do that. The system that Australia implemented has managed to do that.
Agree, that seems like a good transition model.
Disagree. Socialist Healthcare is always the wrong way to go.
It is not socialist healthcare. The vast majority of healthcare is provided by private doctors and facilities in Australia. The government just provides to everyone a very minimum level of health insurance and guaranteed care if you visit a state hospital.

Companies can still provide employees private health insurance that provides benefits above and beyond the minimum government levels Individuals of means can also buy their own greater health insurance. The easiest way to explain it in our terms is that everyone gets something like a catastrophic health care plan or a low tier Bronze plan in the ACA. If you want more, you pay for it yourself.

This systems allows for everyone to have access to the health care system while still maintaining the incentive nature of private healthcare. It has been in place for almost 10 years and seems to be working as far as limiting the increases in costs.

It is a compromise that works. It is also a system that Trump has said he likes and would sign into law.

People sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to visit violence on those who would do them harm.

If you wanna bring the cost of healthcare down, take away the freebies for government workers, cradle to the grave leechers, illegal immigrants, and welfare recipients. As long as the government keep on giving the healthcare industry a blank check, it's not gonna come down.

So....private freebies from cradle to grave are ok....but government workers who have given just as much to their jobs are not...which include millions of retired military veterans who have given the full measure of devotion to their country..do you want to do away with "their" freebies too?

Do I now? He made no such distinction...and regardless..civil service may indeed be a haven for slackers but I'd wager that just as many see a lifetime of service to something other then the almighty dollar might be of worth. My oldest son is now a physician with the Indian Health Service no doubt he could make oodles of cash in the private sector but he would rather heal those of his people who are in need of medical care on a government salary.

As for those bureaucrats...we are a nation of 330 million plus, in a country equal to many parts of the continents, governing us takes more then a few secretaries and managers.

He's Mr. Slippery Slope. I doubt Tsal knows how much in premium state and city workers pay for their healthcare.

Exactly you point....the public service used to be low wage steady employment with pride and some perks on retirement....now it's a career with great wages, "F" up and it's no problem....and all the perks thrown in.... :shakeshead:
