Don't Look Now, There's More Winning: Layoffs Stun Steelworkers Who Voted For Trump

Layoffs are stunning steelworkers who, just a year ago, greeted Trump’s election as a new dawn for their industry:

Trump Promised to Protect Steel. Layoffs Are Coming Instead. https://nyti.ms/2DvWre2

"In September, ArcelorMittal, which owns the mill, announced that it would lay off 150 of the plant’s 207 workers next year. While the cuts will start with the most junior employees, they will go so deep that even workers with decades of experience will be cast out...The layoffs have stunned these steelworkers who, just a year ago, greeted President Trump’s election as a new dawn for their industry. Mr. Trump pledged to build roads and bridges, strengthen “Buy America” provisions, protect factories from unfair imports and revive industry, especially steel.

But after a year in office, Mr. Trump has not enacted these policies. And when it comes to steel, his failure to follow through on a promise has had unintended consequences."

Man That's Winning And Oh, Merry Christmas To You Poor Laid Off Souls....D.J. Trump!!!!

ArcelorMittal is a very large, India controlled multinational corporation headquartered in Luxembourg....They produce much of the steel in the world....Trump's control over such entities will improve as we adjust taxes and trade deals....It ain't over til the fat lady sings........... :)

Number of jobs lost to foreign competition up since Trump’s election: report; http://thehill.com/policy/finance/362526-number-of-jobs-lost-to-foreign-trade-since-trumps-election-on-par-with

"The number of U.S. jobs eliminated due to foreign competition since President Trump's election last year has largely kept pace with previous years, according to a new report.

An analysis of Labor Department data by the labor coalition Good Jobs Nation found that more than 93,000 U.S. jobs have been eliminated since Trump's election due to foreign trade.

That's roughly on par with the previous five years, which saw an average of 87,500 jobs per year eliminated.

The coalition's analysis also found that the number of jobs outsourced by federal contractors has actually risen since Trump was elected. Since November 2016, some of the biggest federal contractors have offshored some 10,269 jobs, making up 11 percent of trade-related layoffs, compared to 4 percent in the previous five years."

Yup, looks like much more WINNING on the horizon:

Five obstacles to Trump's infrastructure ambitions; http://thehill.com/policy/transportation/366621-five-obstacles-to-trumps-infrastructure-ambitions

"President Trump plans to put his long-awaited infrastructure package at the top of his 2018 agenda, eager to notch another legislative victory now that he’s passed a major tax overhaul.

The White House will unveil “detailed legislative principles” in January outlining Trump’s infrastructure vision, which lawmakers will use as a blueprint to craft a bill while Trump works to sell the idea to the public, state and local officials and members of Congress."

Trump in 2018: Five things to watch; http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/366628-trump-in-2018-five-things-to-watch-for

"Trump has often argued that he is delivering on his campaign trail slogan — Make American Great Again — pointing in particular to strong economic performance. Unemployment has continued to decline, the stock market has soared and overall economic growth has been robust.

But that does not mean that those gains necessarily go to the people who elected Trump, especially those voters lower down the socio-economic scale who have suffered from decades of wage stagnation and deindustrialization.

Maybe the Trump diehards will never lose faith in the president. But if any significant number of them decide that he is a less transformative figure than they had hoped, he could be in big trouble."
