What do whites think we minorities mean as regards "white priviledge"; Are we talking about the same concept

Who in their right mind would claim black men are superior runners and sprinters? Have you watched a track meet lately? Personally I think they dominate track & field because of black privilege.

It seems both of you stick to the "individual actions" perspective...myself...I've always thought to go for the bigger picture..the ebb and flow of a society and it's view...it's an intangible and thus difficult to argue for or against.

I look at how every field of endeavor is overwhelmingly still dominated by whites, and why is it that we minorities either don't embrace these fields, military, financial, scientific, political, medical, etc..or feel that they won't get their foot in the door...what on a society-level sits in the back of a minority's head with such a belief.

When I walk into a jewelry store, why am I followed and not the white man, why is he served before me...is there a subconscious action by the clerk..or a subconscious anger on my part that is completely unwarranted, and if it is warranted...how should it be addressed.

Not saying you D or Pa haven't earned each of your accolades and personal successes, but up until 1964 when the Civil Rights Act was passed...to many minorities, certainly my own kind, white priviledge was a very real thing. It's harder to continue that philosophy certainly in an age when we have programs out the wazoo to assist minorities gain a level field in life as how it could be compared to their grandfather's time.

As D has said, race pimps (and I concede there are) have thrown out that word so often to the point that any real perception of racism is dismissed out of hand..

T- Whites and Asians (in general) simply have higher IQ's than Non-Whites and Non-Asians. This is fact.

I'm sorry, but there it is.
Bull...some of history's greatest minds were not white....the Incans and Mayans were highly rated civilizations and there are still monuments done by Ancient Egypt that Western Europe hasn't been able to reproduce.
Oh I agree T. but, look at the statistics (facts)

You T might be the smartest person here on Pcom. But you would part of the exception to your race.

You succeeded because you're smarter (and worked harder). Yes or no? Just like Whites and Asians are smarter and work harder. That's why people succeed. Not because the color of their skin. It's in the DNA. There is no conspiracy to keep you (your race/s) down.
Your junk science shouldn't even have the word "science" attached to it...it's the same methodology that Mengele used against Jews.

Never said there was a conspiracy...I tend to argue the position most of the mentality is subconscious, not even aware of how it influences their opinions.

The Cheyenne, Sioux, and Arapaho were some of the finest lite cavalrymen in the world...does that mean they are genetically disposed to working with horses more? The Salish and Kulak of the Northwest were fishermen..are they disposed to working on the water better?

Genetics was also used as excuse as to why blacks were kept out of professional sports that they were genetically more animal, thus more agile and stronger then white players, thus they had an advantage and shouldn't be allowed to play against whites.
North American Indians are better at Fishing and hunting. Blacks are better at sports.

Whites and Asians...... All the other stuff.

Thanks T

Tsal, I am going to give you a fine example why nobody cares about "white privilege" except those using it as an excuse for their failures. The following link shows why even though this is a new term it is already falling on deaf ears everywhere.

Quote:

Farmers' markets a racially biased cause of 'environmental gentrification,' professors say

Two California professors are criticizing farmers’ markets for causing “environmental gentrification” in which “habits of white people are normalized.”

San Diego State University geography professors Pascale Joassart-Marcelli and Fernando J. Bosco contend that farmers’ markets are “white spaces” oppressing minorities in a chapter for "Just Green Enough," an environmental anthology focused on urban development.

Environmental gentrification is defined as a process where “environmental improvements lead to … the displacement of long-term residents,” according to the anthology.

The professors, as reported by Campus Reform, say farmers’ markets are “exclusionary” because locals cannot “afford the food and/or feel excluded from these new spaces.”

The SDSU professors, who teach classes like “Geography of Food” and “Food Justice,” argue that “farmers’ markets are often white spaces where the food consumption habits of white people are normalized.”

Listen, I'm not saying there aren't plenty of fruits and nuts spouting complete and utter bullcrap, there are, you can't turn your head without bumping into one of them. It also makes any rational discussion of racism impossible because of them.

There is in my opinion, a persistent theme in many people, that racism per se didn't exist past 1964 when the CRA and VRA were passed...in point of fact, while officially Jim Crow was dead, his corpse took another 20 years or so to decompose to the point the mentality that made those laws wither and die.

I can't pinpoint specifics for you D....and I know that's what you and PA are expecting of me. For the first 2 centuries of the Republic, life, society, the economy, itself was geared toward the advancement of whites in this country. From the poorest to the wealthiest..a system of belief, of dogma really....the concept of Manifest Destiny comes to mind.

I realize I'm not making a good case for the discussion here..rather jumping from point to point apparently...and for that you have my apologies.

In my opinion it refers to an unequal application / treatment by the law as well as the same when it come to opportunities and education.

You make the common mistake of confusing the lack (or reduction) of discrimination against minorities for discrimination against whites. You're just not getting the whitey 'good ole boy' leg up as much anymore. And you don't like it.

No, Asians are inherently good at math whereas Blacks and Hispanics fall behind. Math is a universal language that has no bias whatsoever. That has nothing to do with discrimination or keeping the man down by society.

What a bs study. Farmer's market sellers are made up of whites and Asians along with a few Hispanics. To grab the best produce, you gotta get up early. I know leftists will throw out the racist label at me if I say certain races have no intention of doing so. Farmer's market is one of the cheapest place to purchase produce. Affordability excuse is a ruse to throw out the race card.
