I remember when Leftists were first raving about that on p.com and we all calmly explained why it was obviously a bad idea. They just didn’t get it.

Solar and wind energy are steadily becoming more and more cost effective. Competition and the free market will undoubtedly deliver cheap, clean and renewable energy. My friends on the right need to reconsider their opposition to renewables. Stopping the flow of oil money to countries like Iran and Venezuela is a lot cheaper than war. The health benefits of not dumping pollutants into the air may be an even bigger benefit. How many people do you know that have cancer? Coincidence?

How much energy does it take to maintain a vacuum in a 600 mile tube?

I'm not the aerospace engineer in the family- that's my youngest brother.
But I'll ask him sometime and let you know.

Right now he's with a company out of Ohio and Germany training engineers in Hungary on operating giant hydraulic fans that are used in mining ventilation shafts and other things..

The cost per kilowatt for solar energy is coming down. As I have said numerous times, when it reaches parity with coal it will be adopted on an extreme scale. It has not quite reached parity yet and there are issues with maintaining steady state generation but in a decade it should be ready for prime time.

I am concerned though about the current reliance on a single fuel source for very large percentages of our electrical production. Due to the low cost of natural gas and anti-coal regulations from the previous administration many utilities have been shuttering coal plants and continue to do so. My concern is for the future when we could be in the situation that the UK is in now where a disturbance in natural gas availability causes a large scale issue during a time of peak weather (either hot or cold).

Thus far we have not abandoned coal completely but once you take a coal plant fully offline you can't restart it easily. This situation has led to the UK being forced to buy LNG from Russia. Being dependent on a nation that you have active sanctions on is never a good position.

Tesla home sound great but not cost effective at all for the average home owner to install.
Kate Steinle was separated from her family permanently but leftists didn't seem to mind.

The US should never rely on any rogue regime for energy, especially given our energy reserve. I suggest a gradual transition to renewables, dependent on price, from cleaner energies like natural gas to renewables. I also agree a single energy source is not a good idea. I think efficient energy storage is the next big obstacle. I would prefer stand alone energy sources that do not rely on a vulnerable grid. I would love it if I could control my own energy and not rely on a utility company or the grid.

My mom used to have a solar powered clothes dryer.
Made out of hemp rope.
No, bailing wire.
I rescued a cat 40 feet up in a tree a couple years ago
with 100 ' of weedeater string, a box, a rock, duck tape and a small bowl of food.

It took about 2 hours and my arm almost fell off from hurling a heavy rock 40 feet over an oak branch, but I finally managed to engineer an elevator for her.
As soon as she got into the box it plunged down when I had to let go of the string but I was able to break the fall and she made it.
