Trump's Job Revival? What Happen To All The Winning?

Today's Meet the Press Data Download blew a hole in the Trump administrations claim that the president has turned things around when it comes to jobs and the well being of the average American, particularly his base.

Data Download: Meet the Press -January 7, 2018; https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/meet-press-january-7-2018-n835386

The Facts:

"After a rocky first year in office, President Trump consistently points to one highlight: a strong economy. That includes a booming stock market, with the Dow climbing 25% and the unemployment rate sitting at a paltry 4.1%.

But what about when it comes to jobs? Well, it was a good year, but maybe not as good as President Trump wants you to think. There were actually more jobs created in 2016, President Obama's last year in office, over 2.2 million, than in 2017, President Trump's first year, about 2 million. 2017 was actually the weakest year for job growth since 2010. Maybe a sign that a relatively good economy doesn't have much more room for growth.

But what about the jobs President Trump promised voters he'd bring back during his campaign, specifically manufacturing and coal mining? Well, both industries have seen slight upticks of 1.6% each. But they have a long way to go. But that's not nothing.

But even with all of this good news, there are still some economic challenges, including labor force participation and wages. In 2017, the percentage of the population that was actively seeking a job was actually down marginally and that was even with all of the good news about the economy, which should have lured more of these workers back. So, while wages were marginally up, about 60 cents an hour, there was not really a marked improvement there.

Altogether, the numbers from 2017, while good, they’re not yet great. They were better than some years, worse than others. President Trump will take credit for at least some of the good job numbers, as all presidents do. But in truth, the jobs numbers from 2017 look more like a continuation of the recovery trends set in recent years than a new or better direction."

I'm quitting my current job to go to a different factory that'll pay me an extra $1.50 an hour. Things are pretty alright from where I'm sitting.

It's been generally improving since mid 2010, though still below where it was pre-recession.

Where are the progressive liberal victories since Trump was elected ???...Have Democrats found a candidate who can beat him in 2020 ???...Will Democrats gain a majority in Congress in 2018 ???...Will the Democratic Party change their name in 2021 to avoid bill collectors ???........... :shakeshead:

We’re handing out 2000 dollar New Years bonuses at our company - to everyone because of the tax plan.
Companies that announced big bonuses after GOP tax cut are now laying off their workers; https://thinkprogress.org/companies-gop-tax-bonuses-layoffs-fdf07fdf90d2/

"At least two major companies that publicly announced large bonuses for their employees after the passage of a massive GOP-led tax overhaul — which represented a windfall for wealthy Americans and big corporations — quietly laid off hundreds of workers at the same time.

Comcast laid off more than 500 sales employees right before Christmas, according to documents reviewed by media outlets including the Philadelphia Enquirer, Philly.com, and the Daily News. The documents were confirmed by at least one former Comcast employee who was not identified in the press.

AT&T is also in the process of laying off thousands of employees, according to the Communication Workers of America (CWA) union, which represents AT&T workers. CWA filed a lawsuit against the company claiming that some of those layoffs are needless, and that the timing of the terminations — just two weeks before Christmas — represents “an extraordinary act of corporate cruelty.”

I'm surprised that Comcast and AT&T have not gone bankrupt yet...Perhaps they decided they needed to give bonuses to their remaining employees so they won't bail....Even failing businesses need to retain some staff....... :dunno:

As John Boehner once asked Obama: "Mr. President, where are the jobs?"

Then again there's some debate as to whether or not Trump even remembers Boehner!!!!!!!!!!!

Another break from reality?

It was slightly lower (.03%) for the last quarter 2017 than for the same period last year. Want to take a shot at next year or the year after?

The data downloaded on MTP shows a drop off in labor market participation under Trump so stop the fibbing.

Bringing manufacturing jobs back won't result in the hyped up numbers of new jobs that Trump and the Kool-Aid guzzlers keep prattling on about, manufacturing is highly automated now.

Note: "The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that 2017 was a strong year for U.S. employment, with the economy adding a total of 2.11 million jobs. After a several-years-long trend of growth, economists expect that fewer jobs will be added in the coming year..."

For TRUTH go to BLS "workforce participation levels for years 2009 to 2017"...You are full of it, as well as Obama leftovers at the Bureau of Labor Statistics...The raw data during this time period does not lie............ :booboo:
